Embrace your evolution

Six years ago, this was my personal brand.
The custom fitted suit giving me the look of a 'professional'. Truthfully, I was never that comfortable in a suit, it was just a reflection of who I thought I needed to be to succeed in the world of business.
I was told at the beginning of my career that wearing a suit shows respect for the person you are doing business with. There may be some truth in that, but I show respect by bringing myself to the table.
Jump ahead to 2024 and I’ve learnt to embrace my individuality: tattoos on display, a beard that needs an Instagram page of its own, and a T-Shirt replacing the formality of a suit.?
Have I lost business as a result? 100% yes. I’ve been looked up and down, treated disrespectfully, told that “I’m not the right fit”, I mean, who wants to work with someone who is covered in tattoos, dressed like a biker?
Being called "Crocodile Dundee" really pissed me off.
However the shift was more than just sartorial; it's just a reflection of my deeper personal evolution. I accepted that my value doesn't live in the suit I wear, but in the experience, insight, and passion I bring to the stage. If people don’t vibe with that, it’s OK. It was never meant to be.

You see, I’m not just teaching formulaic, generic marketing strategies; everything I teach I’ve done myself, and some huge success and some huge failures. I'm always sharing a piece of myself, telling my story. In turn, working to inspire others to do the same.?
By just being “me” I've discovered a more profound connection with my audience.
Have I gained business as a result?
100%, my clients want to work with someone who isn’t playing a game, telling them what they want to hear. They want the truth, how can you deliver that promise if you’re not being true to yourself?
Personal branding is not about packaging yourself into a neatly defined box. It's about tearing down the box and allowing your authentic self to shine through.?
It needs to reflect your true self, and that shows the ULTIMATE respect to the person you are doing business with.?
1. Evolution is a sign of growth, not inconsistency.
2. Authenticity resonates more deeply than perfection.
3. Personal and professional growth go hand in hand.
How have you evolved in your personal branding, and what impact has it had on your professional life?
