Embrace the Storm: A Journey of Resilience

"Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, 'I will try again tomorrow.'" - Mary Anne Radmacher

Embarking on this journey, I found myself engulfed in what felt like an endless storm. My life, once a beacon of stability, had transformed into a tumultuous sea of personal, professional, and physical setbacks. Each wave of difficulty threatened to pull me under, leaving me gasping for air in the dark depths of despair. Amid this chaos, I struggled to find a foothold, a glimmer of hope that could guide me back to the surface. The relentless barrage of challenges had a way of dimming the brightest of spirits, yet, deep within, a flicker of resilience refused to be extinguished.

In my search for solace, I turned to the ocean—a realm that had always intimidated me with its vastness and unpredictability. Surfing, an activity I once viewed from the safety of the shore, became my unlikely refuge. The very act of paddling out into the open waters, where the horizon stretched endlessly, mirrored my own leap into the unknown. With each session, the waves I rode became not just physical challenges, but symbols of the adversities I was learning to navigate in my life. The ocean, in its majestic indifference, taught me lessons of humility and perseverance, showing me that the strength to rise again is born from the courage to embrace the fall.

In the heart of the storm lies the key to our strength; it's not just about surviving the waves, but learning to dance with them.

The decision to enter a surfing competition represented a pivotal moment in my journey. This was not just a test of skill, but a challenge to the very fears and doubts that had shackled me. Standing at the water's edge, I felt the weight of my past struggles and the uncertainty of the path ahead. Yet, as I paddled out, I realized that this was more than a competition; it was a declaration of my resolve to not be defined by my setbacks. Each wave I faced in the competition became a metaphor for the obstacles I had encountered in life—daunting, yet not insurmountable.

This experience illuminated a profound truth about the human spirit: we are capable of enduring far more than we give ourselves credit for. The act of confronting and overcoming my fears in the surfing competition was a testament to this. It was not just about winning; it was about proving to myself that I could rise above the challenges that life threw my way. Through this journey, I learned that courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day whispering, 'I will try again tomorrow.'

Engaging with the ocean and embracing the physical demands of surfing also opened a new avenue for healing. The rhythmic dance with the waves, the salty spray against my skin, and the sheer exhilaration of gliding over water became my therapy. This connection to nature served as a powerful reminder of the beauty that exists amidst chaos. It taught me that healing often requires us to step outside our comfort zones and engage with the world in ways we might never have imagined.

This journey also underscored the importance of self-compassion and kindness. In the face of adversity, it's easy to become our own harshest critic. Yet, learning to treat myself with the same kindness I would offer a friend became a crucial step in my recovery. This shift in perspective allowed me to recognize that rest and indulgence in comfort activities were not signs of weakness, but acts of self-care essential for emotional resilience.

Remove TRY out of your lexicon. Be a doer! TRY stands for Talking Re-talking Yuck in my notes. What are you going to do? Jedis do. Never try is a favorite quote. Would you want your dentist to “try” and give you a root canal? Empower your out come through you self talk and language. Human consciousness is faster than light. When we use our feelings, emotions and thoughts we have altered the fabric of reality and it has been manifested and so it is.
