Embrace the News - October 2024

Welcome back to this edition of Embrace the News. I hope you all enjoyed Halloween. The best treat you can get on Halloween is from pumpkin seeds. They are packed with protein and are rich in antioxidants, including carotenoids and tocopherols, which help protect against oxidative stress. My tip to you today is to roast them and enjoy them before they go out of season.

Now on to the rest of the news:

Welcome to Jinder Verney

I am so excited to have Jinder Verney joining our Embracing Nutrition team as a practitioner supporting cancer clients.

Five years ago, she found out that she is a BRCA1-positive carrier. Every conventional doctor she has spoken to has insisted she has a double mastectomy and hysterectomy, which she has resisted, despite huge pressure from what she sees as a pharma-led, broken NHS system. Instead, Jinder leads a life based on prevention and works on the belief that genes load the gun, but that it is your environment that pulls the trigger. Nutrition, Lifestyle and Environment are huge contributing factors to health.

Her goal is to share what she knows with all the people she works with and more. You can learn more about Jinder by watching this YouTube video.

Have You Considered Functional Dentistry?

It’s tempting to think of dentistry as separate from general healthcare. However, because all parts of your body are closely connected, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Your oral microbiome is connected with, but not identical to, the microbiome in your gut. It follows, then, that both communities influence the other. You swallow millions of these bacteria every day so a certain amount will make their way into your gut. So, the health of your mouth can directly influence the health of your gut – and vice versa – and from this, affect your whole body. This article will take a deep dive into the links between oral health and whole-body health and discover some of the benefits of functional dentistry. Read more here.

How Post-Partum Depression Helped Ryre to Understand Her Body’s Challenges

After her daughter was born, Ryre was diagnosed with postpartum depression and anxiety. Many people can relate to having a low mood following the birth of a baby. The impact on family, career, friendships, and overall quality of life can be considerable.

For Ryre, the frustration of not understanding why this had happened weighed heavily on her. However, understanding where to start can feel daunting, particularly when you’re suffering from a low mood and a busy life. This article highlights our fertility and pregnancy specialist, Ryre Lee Cornish and tells the story of why she specialised in this area. Read more here.

Lottie’s Little Stars: Supporting Kids with Alopecia

Hair loss, otherwise known as alopecia, can be distressing at any age, especially when it happens to a child. It can be a major source of stress for both the child and parents and inevitably affects a child’s self-esteem. Our functional Medicine practitioner Lottie Strutt has seen firsthand how finding the root causes of hair loss can have meaningful results. Find out how here.
