Embrace the Glimmer: The Magic of Glimmering Moments in Life and Work

Ever had one of those days when the sun hits your coffee just right, and for a moment, everything's perfect? That, my friends, is a glimmering moment—a tiny slice of happiness that makes you pause and smile. ??

What Are Glimmering Moments?

I recently came across the term "glimmer" and found it so powerful that I had to share it with you all. Essentially, a glimmer is the opposite of a trigger. Glimmering moments are those little bursts of joy that make you feel like everything will be okay. They're not grand or dramatic; they're subtle, like the first sip of your favorite drink, a surprise message from an old friend, or nailing a presentation at work.

Why Should We Care?

Glimmers are those micro-moments in your day that make you feel joy, happiness, peace, or gratitude. Life's a wild ride. Between deadlines, meetings, and the daily grind, it's easy to forget to stop and smell the roses. Glimmering moments remind us that happiness isn't always about big achievements. Sometimes, it's the little things that make the biggest impact. ??

How to Spot Your Glimmers

Once you train your brain to be on the lookout for glimmers, more of these tiny moments will begin to appear.

  1. Slow Down: You can't see the glimmer if you're rushing around like a headless chicken. Take a deep breath and be present.
  2. Stay Curious: Approach each day with a sense of wonder. Who knows what delightful surprise is waiting around the corner?
  3. Celebrate Small Wins: Did you clear your inbox? High five! ??? Finished that report? Victory dance! ??

Bringing Glimmer to the Workplace

Work doesn't have to be all serious business. Infuse some sparkle into your daily routine:

  • Random Acts of Kindness: Compliment a colleague, bring donuts to a meeting, or leave a sticky note with a motivational quote.
  • Create Fun Rituals: Start meetings with a joke, have themed dress-up days, or celebrate quirky holidays (International Coffee Day, anyone?).
  • Personal Check-Ins: Take a few minutes to chat with your team about their weekend plans or what they're excited about. Connection fuels happiness.

Share Your Glimmers

Let's spread the joy, whether it's a stunning sunset, a win at work, or your pet doing something hilarious. Glimmers can boost our mental health and help us feel grounded and present. And they are often free.

To kick things off, here's mine: Today, my nine-year-old son noticed I was late for a morning appointment and surprised me by preparing some eggs for breakfast. It wasn't just about the food (though it was delicious); it was about the caring attitude and shared joy. That's a glimmering moment I'll treasure.

So, what's your glimmering moment today? Drop it in the comments, and let's create a thread of positivity!

Keep shining, everyone! ?

I relate this notion of glimmer to aesthetic experiences. When asked about aesthetic experiences, people often refer to lofty experiences of nature or art. But there are 'milder' aesthetic experiences in our daily lives that could be described as glimmers.
