Embrace the Discomfort Zone: Your Ticket to Lifetime Success - Promise!

Who likes to be in their comfort zone? Well, I sure do. It's comfy and cozy, I can share my expertise easily, and I can be blissfully unaware of everything else around me.

Cue the.....record scraaaaaaaaatch!

Let’s face it: the comfort zone is where dreams go to nap.

?

The Discomfort Zone, on the other hand, is where the magic happens. It’s the place where you face your fears, take risks, and discover that you can handle way more than you ever imagined.

?

I not only stepped out of my comfort zone last week, but dove headfirst into a sea of terror, fear, stress, a massive impostor syndrome, and so on.

?

That's right. I strode into Smash Studios in NYC on Thursday afternoon to be a part of the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp that ran for four days, petrified that my guitar skills had eroded over time. (Hint: They had!)

?

I hadn't performed in a band in many many years, and here was the first test.

?

I spent a couple of weeks rehearsing several songs that were chosen from a list from the libraries of Bad Company / Free, Cheap Trick and Foreigner, along with other classic rock classics.

?

My band of five “weekend rockers” and I chose a kick-ass set, and the end result was the chance to play in the studio in front of Simon Kirke of Bad Company / Free on Friday, followed by two incredible opportunities to perform onstage at NYC's iconic Cutting Room, Saturday night with guitar legend Rick Nielsen and his son Daxx of Cheap Trick, and Sunday night with the amazing lead singer of Foreigner, Lou Gramm!

I can't stress enough to you all how valuable it is to invest in memorable experiences instead of a fancier home, car, whatever. I will treasure those four days with my fellow bandmates, along with Simon, Rick and Lou, and the other attendees and counselors forever, and needless to say, it's giving me the itch to get a band going again.

?

Stepping into the Discomfort Zone doesn’t have to mean bungee jumping off a cliff (unless that’s your thing). It can be as simple as speaking up in a meeting, trying a new hobby, or networking with strangers at a conference. These small, uncomfortable moments build resilience, adaptability, and a knack for seizing opportunities.

?

So, next time you’re tempted to hit the snooze button on life, remember that stepping into your Discomfort Zone is the secret sauce to lifetime success. Embrace the awkwardness, laugh at the missteps, and celebrate the victories. After all, life’s too short to live in the comfort zone!
