Embrace a better way...

It is common knowledge now that Artificial Intelligence excels at automating repetitive, data-driven tasks such as processing datasets and logical reasoning, performing natural language processing, and generating content summaries, code, or reports. We know that AI can optimize processes, recommend personalized content, and enhance decision-making. We also know that capabilities extend to image recognition, human-like chatbots, avatars and creative tasks like generating art or music.

With this in mind there is no industry, or person, on the planet that will not be impacted on the macro or micro level in the post AI world. Some will use it for evil, some will use it to improve lives and solve the world's biggest problems, and others will use it for commercial gain.

On a commercial level, Artificial Intelligence will see successful businesses embrace better ways of doing things, it is inevitable, and those who are not open to a wholistic approach to AI will struggle to compete.

Over the past week I have put together some things to consider from a commercial perspective, and I am interested in your views:

  • Ethical Frameworks: Establish ethical guidelines for development and deployment. Who might be harmed, exploited, or mislead?
  • Transparency: Be transparent to clients about capabilities, limitations, and processes. Make sure you clients know what they are getting.
  • Bias Mitigation: Regularly audit and address biases in training data and algorithms. Don't be complacent, the world of information is moving fast.
  • Human Oversight: Maintain regular human oversight to prevent unintended consequences. Even the best AI has flaws and limitations.
  • Privacy Protection: Safeguard user data and privacy. Just because it is new and shiny, doesn't mean it is the wild West, there are consequences.
  • Legal Accountability: Regularly audit you right to use IP, content, and training data, and clearly assign and audit accountability.
  • Education: Educate employees and users about the impacts and limitations and implement robust change management. Care for the humans!
  • Wholistic Approach: Don't apply AI just a few tasks or roles in isolation, consider stepping back and looking at the big picture for greater impact.

So, what else needs to be considered, and is your business up for the challenge?

Some companies looking to do interesting things in this space that I have spoken to this week include Decidr (powering transformative AI for business) and Springboards.ai (a creative agency combining agency intuition with AI). Unrelated to AI but a cool start-up (who are probably all over it under the hood) is BlueSana (an ESG investment platform for sophisticated investors).

Have a great weekend!

Interesting read. Sustainability is another aspect that is widely discussed and should be considered; accounting for the environmental impact of AI development and deployment. Optimizing algorithms and infrastructure to reduce energy consumption and carbon footprints.
