Embedded world 2023 is approaching
Now we have Embedded world in its standard place in March (14th to 16th). This is much more suitable time than 2022 summertime. Exhibition has become the most important show in embedded business. It has already passed Electronica in the importance. Intel, NXP, Renesas presents the latest semiconductor innovations. There will be wide range hardware accelerators for AI -workloads. Software will be important topics as it is today defining more of the product than hardware itself. There will be also latest display technologies and touch technologies present to show the future of the embedded displays. We will also see various sensor technologies for enhancing autonomous machines. For sure IoT is never out of fashion and there will be lot of enabling technologies available. Communication technologies will play also strong part in this and will enable a lot of functionality in to embedded devices. Beginning of every device is the security which will have strong presence as well.
New CPU technologies
RISC-V is going to have strong presence in the show and there is a dedicated seminar round this open hardware architecture. There will be information about RISC-V in heterogenous computing, implementing Android to RISC-V and other interesting topics round this technology. NXP will bring their latest i.mx93 -CPUs in the show with low power features and new security features. Renesas is also expanding to area of embedded computing with their new line up of ARM Cortex A55-based CPU’s. We will also see new products based on Intel 13th generation CPU’s which are bringing PCIe GEN 5, 10GB ethernet, new CPU architecture with efficiency and power cores. Intel is also coming with their new N-range which is replacing old lower end Pentium and Celeron CPU’s. There will be new Atom 7000x series for embedded applications as well. Intel claim range of 50% performance benefits for these new CPU’s. We will also see Windows to support ARM -based CPU’s like NXP: s i.mx -family products.

New in embedded displays
Especially on automotive style business there are micro-LED solutions coming in. This technology is enabling to control any part of the display backlight separately. So, you can have more and less bright areas. It is useful to control the brightness and the heat in various lightning situations. This technology is also giving extreme contrast. There is also plenty of new paper displays and transreflective displays enabling extremely low power solution. These kind of display are offering great visibility in any ambient light condition. On touch side there are new on cell touch solutions, touch with index matched cover lens enabling all black surface for the device without compromising the optical performance. New MAM technology is enabling ultra-thin boarders for display with great outlook. PLDC technology is enabling to switch display look from milky to clear on the fly. FUSA (Functional Safety Standard) is also available for touch screens with innovative dual controller solution. Touch can as well recognize objects or thermal via touch screen.
Many demonstrations and meeting people
Writing only one code and run it in multiple different hardware platforms is now possible. There is virtual tractor demo showing this in practice. This is one of the interesting demos in the show. But even more interesting is to talk with people and hear about their challenges with new products & technologies. It is a good opportunity to gain experience and develop new relations. Regardless of AI and all innovative technologies it is relations that matters.
