Embarking on a Sustainable Journey: Space’s Commitment to Net Zero - Part One

The genesis of our sustainable mission

For over twenty years, Space has carved out a niche of excellence in the fit-out industry, earning accolades and respect from clients and partners alike. Our pursuit of Excellence as Standard has always been our guiding star, propelling us towards not just commercial success, but also towards becoming a beacon of innovation and responsibility.

This is Part One of a series of articles where we'll be sharing our journey to Net Zero so far. We aim to highlight the milestones we've celebrated, the lessons we've learnt, and the progress we've made. Too often, sustainability is viewed as the exclusive domain of large corporations, marred by misconceptions of high costs, excessive time commitments, and minimal impact. We challenge these notions and hope to encourage other SMEs to embrace sustainability as an attainable and essential endeavour.

Reflecting, learning and evolving to pioneer sustainable practices

In 2022, we embarked on a reflective journey, examining our company's mission and vision with fresh eyes. We engaged our dedicated team, sought insights from industry pioneers, and opened our minds to learning, iterating, and embracing feedback. This process wasn't just about introspection; it was a step towards identifying and seizing opportunities to forge a positive impact on our planet.

Our commitment to sustainability has quickly evolved from a budding idea to a core value that will guide our business into the future. It's a journey that has seen us initiate and implement an array of sustainable practices and policies. Notable milestones include the launch of our Priority Supply Chain Survey, attaining Gold Status at the Supply Chain Sustainability School (UK) , unveiling our inaugural Sustainability Report, and taking an active role in shaping industry standards through our membership in the Finishes and Interiors Sector Sustainability Leadership Group, and becoming Great Place To Work UK certified.

The strategy behind our actions

These strides reflect our broader Sustainability Strategy. As an SME, we recognise the imperative to tackle sustainability challenges head-on. Understanding that impactful actions begin with a solid foundation, we've crafted a Strategy that mirrors our company values. It serves as both a testament to our commitment to transparency and a roadmap guiding every decision and action we take towards sustainability.

An Open Invitation to Join Our Journey

By sharing our journey to Net Zero we want to provide encouragement to small and medium enterprises to embark on their own paths of sustainability and we're eager to debunk the myths that sustainability is out of reach for SMEs, showing that every step forward is a step towards a more sustainable and vibrant future.

Stay tuned for Part Two where we dive a bit deeper into the early days of our sustainability journey.

I take pride in being associated with a company that invests in fostering a sustainable environment. It's commendable how we've embarked on launching reports, developing frameworks, and establishing alliances focused on reducing carbon emissions, earning us a gold rating from the Supply Chain Sustainability School. The debut of our Sustainability Report, along with our proactive involvement in setting benchmarks as part of the Finishes and Interiors Sector Sustainability Leadership Group, highlights our commitment. Additionally, being recognised as a Great Place To Work in the UK propels us toward our ultimate goal of achieving net zero. Best of luck, Olga. And keep up the great work Space team.????
