EMBARKING ON THE NEW!
You work hard on your resume, train and polish your interview skills with multiple career coach and you have just secured the job that is perfect for you. The act of starting a new job can be daunting! You are not sure of the expectations, what is your 30-60-90 day's plan? or do you even have one?
Your first day in office, commonly the recruiting team or your immediate supervisor will show you around the office and introduce you to key people in the organization. What is your “elevator pitch”? Have you crafted an introduction of yourself?
If you can get your hands on this book, it is highly recommended. If not below is my "distilled" version.
Here are my ideas/tips for creating an effective 30-60-90 day’s plan that will position you well in your new role & the organization.
1. Perform a thorough research on the organization you are joining, get to know the people, read and understand the industry (Challenges & opportunities). Possibly, know the corporate-lingo and add in your day-to-day vocab.
2. Elevator pitch- Think about your previous roles, craft a concise answer. Usually, it’s this:
- They will ask which organization you came from or which universities you graduated from and in what field of study.
- Where are you staying & how long have you stayed there.
- Your hobbies and if you do any sports.
- You may want to ask them about their favorite lunch spot, this will position you well to ask them out for lunch in the near future.
3. Your first 30-days starts with being a “sponge”. Learn as much as you can about the company products, services. Attend meetings or meeting “TEAMS” and getting to know the culture more.
- Seek a mentor or buddy
- Ask and understand company performance measures
- Take everything discussed “During Lunch” with a pinch of salt, please!
4. Your 60-days starts with being a “light bulb”. Share the light, give ideas just ideas here please on how you see things done from your past experiences. Visit other departments, identify areas of improvement- that’s your key to shine. Spend this 60days on strategizing and planning.
5. Your 90-days starts with being a “white paper”. Gather feedback from your colleagues about your ideas and how they see it- gaining their views and perspective.
There’s no standard or one size fits all in creating a 30-60-90 day plan, but you must have a plan, to begin with.
Remember we do not plan to fail but we fail to plan. by having a simple activity creating this plan in advance will make you more confident & they say confidence is key!
All the best! Much Love!
