Embarking on a New Journey: NeuroAI - Bridging Compassion and Innovation in Neurodiversity Care

Imagine a world where neurodiversity is not only understood but celebrated. A world where early, effective, and personalized care is a fundamental right, ensuring every child with neurodiversity is supported to reach their full potential. Unfortunately, this is not the reality we live in today. That’s why I co-founded NeuroAI, to help bridge this gap and make this vision a reality.

A few months ago, I shared a glimpse into my entrepreneurial journey and hinted at something new and exciting on the horizon. Today, I am thrilled to reveal NeuroAI, a groundbreaking MedTech company dedicated to transforming the assessment and care of neurodiversities, starting with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

A Personal Journey

The inspiration behind NeuroAI is deeply personal. As a foster parent and an advocate for child welfare, I’ve seen the profound challenges that families face when navigating the world of neurodiversity. Growing up in Bangladesh and living in other countries where autism and neurodiversity are less understood has fueled my passion for making a difference.

My wife, a dedicated BCBA, and my mother-in-law, an SLP, who has tirelessly worked in the field of autism for over 35 years, have been my greatest inspirations. Their unwavering commitment to supporting children with neurodiversity made me realize how crucial early intervention was. Although autism doesn't require blood tests or brain scans but rather behavioral observations, it was heartbreaking to see so many children deprived of timely intervention due to long wait times and diagnostic challenges.

Understanding the Problem

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects 1 in 36 children according to the CDC. Early intervention is essential, yet the current diagnosis timeline can stretch from 20 months to 5 years. These delays mean that many children miss the critical window for early support, significantly impacting their developmental outcomes and increasing long-term healthcare costs. Moreover, the traditional process of seeking a diagnosis can be daunting and stressful, especially for children already overwhelmed by sensory triggers.

The Solution: NeuroAI

In the face of these challenges, I realized the need for a solution that brings the diagnostic process into the comfort of a family's home. This led to the creation of NeuroAI, a groundbreaking solution leveraging advanced AI technology to provide rapid, accurate, and compassionate assessments from the comfort of home.

Building NeuroAI

NeuroAI is not just a tech solution; it's a mission grounded in human expertise and compassion. I am incredibly fortunate to co-found & work alongside some of the brightest minds in the field, each embodying the values of empathy, innovation, and dedication:

  • Dr. Sharon Gainforth , our CEO, is a remarkable woman leader with over 35 years of experience as a Speech Language Pathologist and a renowned expert in Autism Spectrum Disorder. Her extensive background in clinical practice and her passion for advancing neurodiversity care ensure that our solutions are both effective and empathetic, truly embodying our commitment to human-centered technology.
  • Dr. Rajeen Rajendram, our Chief Medical Officer, brings a wealth of knowledge as a Developmental Pediatrician and an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. His personal connection, as a sibling of an adult with ASD, fuels his dedication to ensuring our platform's medical accuracy and relevance. His insight and compassion drive our mission to provide data-driven excellence and evidence-based innovation.
  • Brad Wasson , our Chief Technology Officer, has extensive experience managing critical infrastructures with crown corporations, such as NB Power. His technical expertise guarantees that our platform is built with the highest standards of privacy, confidentiality, and cybersecurity from day one. Brad’s approach aligns perfectly with our values of integrity and trust.
  • Larry Shaw , our Chief Business Development Officer, uses his vast expertise and recognition as one of Atlantic Canada's top CEOs to lead our partnerships and global expansions. His strategic vision and commitment to collaboration ensure that we reach and support as many families as possible, reflecting our belief in the power of dynamic partnerships and co-creation.

The NeuroAI Experience

At NeuroAI, we believe in the power of combining technology with empathy to transform lives. Our platform allows parents to record their child's natural behavior at home. These recordings are then analyzed by our advanced AI to provide a comprehensive report, leveraging professional input for accurate assessments. But we don’t stop there—our platform offers curated resources and a supportive community to help families navigate their journey with confidence.

Choosing to build NeuroAI in Atlantic Canada was a deliberate decision. This region offers the perfect environment for innovation and growth. The entrepreneurial ecosystem here is vibrant and supportive, making it the ideal place to start and scale a global impact. I am incredibly proud to be part of this community and to contribute to its ongoing success.
