Embarking on my next journey: Building tools and resources for data scientists

Some people say that the only constant in life is change. This notion is amplified for the tech industry—always shifting, evolving, and progressing. That pace of change is particularly evident in data science, a field that didn’t exist when I started my career. In the recent years since the term data scientist was coined, the profession has seen an incredibly rapid pace of evolution and application, across seemingly endless industries and research pursuits.

At the heart of this revolution are the data science practitioners, whose work is not only shaping their field, but also more broadly impacting business and society as a whole. I’m excited to share that I have the opportunity to be even more deeply involved in this community through my new role as Chief Technology Officer of Anaconda.

A common theme of my career path has been building products for communities, whether for music listeners and their favorite artists, or photographers and their peers. What I’ve seen from working with data scientists in my own career is that community powers their day-to-day work and is instrumental to their skills development. Just look at the average data scientist’s toolkit: open source is what made many of those tools possible. With their 20 million users worldwide, Anaconda has strong roots in both the open-source and data science communities, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to further build and develop tools that can positively impact so many people’s lives.

Just one week in, I’ve been inspired by the team's commitment to empowering the world with data and building truly useful resources for data scientists. I’m incredibly excited about the things on the roadmap and the Anaconda technology team. Watch this space for some very cool announcements!
