Email sent =/= problem solved

By default, once we finish an email and click “send,” we get the feeling that a problem or issue is out of our table. Task done. Completed. Over to the following email.?

But that’s not quite so. In most cases, the thread will carry on, either on short notice or many days/weeks later. How can this happen, or how to escape such a loophole??
