email naming rules and your Privacy
Many "individual" email addresses either Personal or Corporate use the "formula" (and its variations/ combinations that derive from it):
- "first name" + "last name" + @ something;
- "first name" + "." + "last name" + @ something;
- "first name initial" + "last name" + @ something;
Now if you do not wish to be contacted (via such email address) by any "unknown" 3rd parties, maybe a good idea is to create an email address that is not subject to the inherent obvious "guessing" that derives from such common practice.
I can understand that organizations and companies alike will resort to such email naming rules for addresses of those staff/ collaborators that (either for "marketing/ branding" reasons or business practical ones) makes sense to have crystal clear that "John Whatever" email address is "John.Whatever@organization"... yet there may be staff/ collaborators in some organizations whose communications are limited to "known individuals" and/ or whose email address can easily be part of a Corporate mailing list where the "authorized user" visualizes "John Whatever", yet the email address is "J3468@organization", hence anonymity towards unauthorized 3rd parties is assured.
Why is this so scarce to be found in the market?
Is it laziness?
Even in companies where there are dedicated CIOs and CISOs...
Sometimes the place to start complaining is your own organization and not really that unauthorized 3rd party that easily guessed your email address...
NOTE: the unlawful behavior of an unauthorized 3rd party is not excused by the missing care of one's own attitude, however, there are some 3rd parties that are not breaching the law and could easily be prevented from "spamming" content... or much easily "actionable" before the applicable law if such care had been taken.
