How many new marketing emails have you received today? I bet it’s a high number.
According to Statista, there are about 320,000,000,000 emails sent each day worldwide.?
Email is healthy, thriving, and growing by leaps and bounds.
Email helps you stay in touch with your past, present and future dream customers.
Email keeps your customers engaged, you stay top of mind, you get information out and you can offer exclusive opportunities and deals.
Emails are a fun opportunity to show off your brand’s personality.
And each month you don't need to be scrambling for new dream customers.
Year after year email is the #1 marketing channel when it comes to return on investment …
making a huge difference in every company’s bottom line.?
For every $1 spent, emails return around $42 in sales according to Oblero.
Which is why it’s no surprise that companies are sending more emails more often.
And why is email still the preferred method of direct communication of millions of businesses every day?
Because PEOPLE READ THEM!
Studies show that 99% of people check their email EVERY DAY …
And most of those people check email as many as 20 times throughout the day — from the time they wake up to the time they go to bed — which marketers like you love because it makes you so visible to your dream customers.
Normally, if you’re like most people — email is the FIRST thing you look at online each day …
Before getting out of bed…
Before social media…
Before the news and weather …
Before logging on to company websites …
Before anything else
What does this mean??
It means it's the best way for your dream customers to SEE you and KEEP you top of mind!
That’s why companies continue to invest in email marketing … despite ever-increasing competition from other channels such as social media.
Email marketing consistently has the highest ROI of any marketing channel, including all the social media channels.
Four out of five marketers would rather give up social media than their email marketing. (!!)
Don’t get me wrong. Social media is great, and you should use it in your marketing since it’s part of an effective sales funnel.
But you should not put it ahead of email marketing.
According to Neil Patel, email crushes social media for quality of traffic as well as quantity.
Why?
It's personal, consistent, reliable, and predictable.
Email gets way more attention per customer than anything else
It's no wonder email is one of the quickest routes … not only to start getting a return on investment … but to make REALLY great money for your business.
Every company needs it.
That means companies are using email to GET customers and to KEEP them. Both critical tasks for a company's bottom line.
Why Do Businesses Need Emails?
It’s to give a piece of important information to people and for them to take some sort of “action.”
According to Oberlo:
Nearly 50% of customers would like to receive weekly promotional emails from their favorite businesses.
Also, emails are low-risk, from a company’s point of view. A short email promotion has very little risk … if it doesn’t work out, your losses are minimal. But if it does, all your efforts will be worth it and you'll have all the advantage.
What Are The Types of Emails to Send to Your Dream Customers
Companies use emails for EVERYTHING …
For example,?
It might be an email to welcome your new customers to your business …
It might be an email to introduce exciting deals …
It might be an email to deliver the information you want …
It might be an email to announce a product to your dream customers…
It might be an email that encourages your dream customer to read about a special offer?…
It might be an email that encourages your dream customers to read a blog post or article just published on your website?…
It might be an email to thank your dream customer for buying something — and congratulate them on making such a good decision — and your chance to offer them another product ( example, Tic Tac at a grocery store — which is a no brainer to your customer so they say, "Yes, please add that"). Others offer digital products/services.
It might be an email to let your dream customers know that an important deadline is approaching — or time is running out to take advantage of special pricing.
It might be an email to tease the product/service
It might be an email to confirm the purchase of a product/membership
It might be an email to Thank the buyer and tell them how to access the product/service
It might be an email to deliver the product (often dripped out over several emails)
It might be an email to upsell to the next suggested product/service
Just to name a few.
These emails typically have one goal?…
To encourage your dream customers to TAKE AN ACTION — which in most cases is simply to click on a link to “learn more.”
Emails are the “voice” of every online company …
There are also emails that provide social proof or answer common questions.?
Emails that give updates on new content (new blog post or podcast episode, webinars for example).?
Emails that give coupons or announce special deals.
There’s a flavor of email for just about anything you need for your business to communicate to your dream clients, customers, patients, and prospects.
You may notice you have many of these flavors in your inbox right now.
In fact, emails are among the most PROFITABLE marketing channels that ANY business can use today.
When a business treats you with respect and respects your privacy, they gain your loyalty and trust. A relationship builds between the prospect and the business.
Social media channels can change their algorithm, decide to hide or delete your account, or place restrictions on how you communicate with your followers?… and there’s nothing you can do about it.
You have?100% control of your email list.?
But you definitely have no control of social media channels because you don't own it — they do (So if they decide to disable your account, ALL your followers, connections are gone)
Here are Four Types of Email to Get You Started
1. Autoresponders
Autoresponder emails automatically get sent to your dream customer once they take an action. They can be as simple as a single email, sent after someone makes an online purchase or membership/application.
Or they can comprise 10 or more emails. For example, if a person buys Product A, then this triggers a series of autoresponders. The first few emails teach them how to use Product A. Then the following emails might introduce the buyer to a similar product, Product B.
Companies love autoresponders because they don’t have to lift a finger. As soon as a prospect or buyer takes an action, this automatically triggers the appropriate autoresponder series.
2. Promotional Emails
Many emails promote specific products or one-off special deals. They could go out every day or only occasionally when there’s a promotion.
3. Welcome Emails
Welcome emails are a special type of autoresponder. They’re usually sent directly after a person signs up as a subscriber or enters their email address after making a purchase.
Typically, welcome emails thank the user for subscribing or buying and then introduce them to other products or services the company offers.
They build awareness about what the company does. At the same time, they open a dialogue and make the user feel like they’ve joined a family of like-minded people.
4. Cart Abandonment Emails
Cart abandonment emails encourage prospects to complete their purchase — maybe they got distracted on Facebook or the baby started crying — and they forgot to finish the purchase.
Or let's say a person adds an item to a shopping cart, then leaves without buying. After a time period, smart businesses send the person an email reminding them they have an item sitting in their shopping cart.
Cart abandonment emails can be a single email or a series of three or more.
Two Main Types of Email Copywriting
1. Inbound Email Copywriting
With inbound email copywriting, your dream customer comes to you. They’ve raised their hand and entered their name and email address to your list.
Now it’s your responsibility to build and nurture the relationship so that they keep coming back to you.
Create email content that moves your dream customer further from pain points and closer to their needs and desires.
2. Outbound Email Copywriting
Outbound email copywriting is getting in front of your dream customer, so you can start a conversation and establish a relationship.
Outbound email is like cold calling. You’re connecting with prospects who don't know you yet and haven’t opted to communicate with you.
