If you’re new to the craft or hoping to use Email as a way to break into the profession of Copywriter, I’ve got good news and bad news…
Bad News First:
AI is going to crush copywriters. Or, more specifically, AI is going to crush Short-Form copywriters.
Short Form is anything that can be consumed in less than 60 seconds. (My definition, others may vary)
Which makes most emails Short Form. Yes, longer written emails take a few more minutes to consume. But even my max length emails take 5-7 minutes to read and that’s usually because they’re teaching an entire concept.
So if you think you’re going to escape this because you’re writing long form, text based emails…think again.
I’m not predicting, by the way. I’m telling. I have personally used AI to emulate the style of 10 or so too long form email writers with near perfect accuracy, including myself. Those emails took 2-3 minutes to generate and edit.
Even the best email copywriters take 15-20 minutes per email, and they’ll get tired after writing 4-5 at one time.
The reason AI is going to crush Short Form is mechanical, based on the way the tech currently works.
In a nutshell, generative AI tools like GPT4 have a limit to how much text they can generate at one time, and then they ‘forget’ what they wrote.
This means that Short Form copy can be entirely encapsulated in a single prompt-response, which speeds up the deployment of new copy
The current limit is ~8000 words. It’s going up to 32k.
It has the ability to refine and edit itself when prompted.
And during those outputs, they can continuously reference outside material. So anybody that feeds anyone’s emails into it will have a near-perfect emulating robot that generates unique text based on those emails.
Put simply:
Your style, tone, and syntax (known as Stylometry) is copiable.
That’s the bad news.
Here’s the good news:
AI-Augmented copywriters are going to crush this game.
And most tools are extraordinarily affordable. Most are free.
So the capacity for an AI-Augment copywriter from anywhere in the world to build a business as a service provider has never been bigger.
ESL writers can instantly turn their ideas into fluent American, British, or Australian local English.
Non-US writers no longer have a disadvantage over US writers when it comes to perception. Why? Because the productivity gains from these tools are undeniable.

US writers who have been worried about overseas competition now have a way to add value far beyond “writing” and effectively turn into entire marketing departments when they combine a tiny bit of EASY strategy.
US writers who have struggled to break the sacred “$10k/mo” barrier can now effortlessly smash it doing nothing but more of what they currently do, just faster and easier. It used to take a brand pivot and a lot of effort. Now you just take 4 clients instead of 2.
Again…I’m not predicting. This is not ”The Future”. This is now. These are currently available tools, and I’m referencing previous personal experience in all of these categories.
One of my Mentees is using AI to localize his writing from Russian ESL to native English.
Another mentee is from a South American country and is using their advanced degree to get clients in the health space, augmenting their writing, research, and branding with AI. Nobody cares where they are from.

There’s two things you need to do right now if you’re an aspiring or working email marketing copywriter.
#1 - Learn and practice the fundamentals of copywriting, story, brand, and email marketing. They exist. You need to be able to discern what is good, what’s bad, and how to look at data and trends.
#2 - Learn how to think about AI tools. This isn’t about some magic prompt, or someone’s course on how to use an app. The way AI works is unique and has unique properties, and knowing them allows you to get the most from any tool that comes out.
