Email etiquette when applying for a job-

It's important that communications are professional when we use email or message on Linkedin for job search. Time and again, many articles have been written about this topic but yet I see many job aspirants failing to observe these basic etiquette.

Here's information on all you need to know about job search email etiquette, including what to put in your job search emails, and how to make sure your email messages are read.

1.???????????????????????? ?????????? ????:

When you're looking for a job, it's a good idea to set up an email account just for job searching. That way your professional email won't get mixed in with your personal mail. Review your email id. What does it say about you? Make it professional—avoid email ids which otherwise you would use for Gaming and dating sites. You don’t believe it, do you? Well, I am sure lot of recruiters in their career span has come across such weird email ids.

Also, please don't send resumes and cover letters from your work email account or use that email address when you apply for jobs online. You do not want your current employer to know that you are planning the Great Escape ??

 2.?????????????? ?????? ?????????? ???? ?? ???????????????? ????????????

Ah ! This one is my favourite.

If you are sending an unsolicited /solicited email for job search and you are not aware of the addressee’s name, it is alright to address as “Dear HR Manager” or “Hi HR Team”. Refrain from addressing with just ”Hi” . This applies for sending messages on Linkedin as well.

 3.?????? ?? ?????????? ?????????????? ????????

I cannot stress on how important this point is…and yet I come across Job search /application emails whose Subject line read something like” Resume”, “My CV”, “cv”,” looking for job”. Your email message needs a proper subject line. If you leave the subject blank, the email is probably going to end up in a spam or be deleted. Make sure you list the position you are applying for in the subject line of your email message, so that the recruiter or the recipient of the mail knows what job you have applied to.

Subject line should be precise to the point like for ex: Application for (mention the post name)| Ref: Your post on (mention the job portal)

 4. ????????????????????:

At some point in our job application phase, we have used references to apply for a job. When using a reference, please make a note to write a line about the person who has referred you , how you know him/her.

For ex: Dear Mam/Sir, I got your reference from Mr/Ms…….from(mention where he/she works) and then mention how you know the person. It is as simple as that??

5.Yes, I am silently correcting your ????????????????. The attractiveness of correct grammar cannot be overstated.

Use proper grammar and spelling—avoid using text shorthand/whatsapp lingos (i.e., plz, thanx, Ya, Yup,K). And most important-this goes without saying, ???? ????????????—???????????? ?????? ?????????? ?????? ?????? ???????????? ???????????????????????

6. ?????????? ????????????-Although, not a part of job application email etiquette but nevertheless an important aspect which cannot be overlooked. You may write a generic Cover letter marketing your skills, qualifications and experiences in case of unsolicited mail.

For a solicited job application email, a more specific cover letter will do the trick in grabbing the attention of the recipient of the email even before opening the attached CV.

Avoid sending job application emails with blank email body with CV for company. A well written cover letter allows you to target the job and the recruiter in a very specific way, leaving the CV to market your skills, qualities and experience as a part of the bigger picture.

7. ????????????/????:

What’s in a Name, you might ask? Remember the Swiggy ad?? Naming your CV is a must. Please mail CVs which are saved under your name and not just a generic one for ex: cv_july new. The CV gets downloaded among the other nameless ones and is lost…..sometimes forever.

Please feel free to add pointers if I have missed out so that all job aspirants sending out emails are benefitted.
