Elywhere shines at the London EV Show 2024

Democratizing fast charging in Europe

I’m excited to share highlights from Elywhere ’s debut at the London EV Show 2024. We showcased our innovative approach to fast EV charging for the first time in Great Britain, drawing on our Nordic expertise and experience. Our message was clear and resonated widely: Elywhere’s battery-boosted superchargers are driving the democratization of EV fast charging by seamlessly bridging the gap between power demand and availability.

From Nordic mountains to European streets

At the show, we demonstrated how our battery-integrated fast chargers, with battery energy storage systems (BESS) combined with DC charging, address grid capacity and infrastructure challenges. One of our standout examples was our newly installed solution at the Leiro snowplow station on the Hardangervidda mountain pass in Norway. This charging solution is part of a pilot project for an electric snowplow, set to undergo rigorous tests in extreme conditions—temperatures as low as -30°C, heavy snowstorms, and meters of snow. This project showcases our ability to adapt technology to demanding environments, providing a competitive edge in regions with limited power and harsh climates.

During my interview with Inés Platini at Mobility Portal Europe , I emphasized: “Our system charges the station’s batteries when not in use and provides fast charging when needed.?This?enables us to deliver ultra-fast charging without further straining the grid.” This flexibility is particularly relevant in markets like the UK, where grid overloads are a common issue, and the demand for sustainable, fast-charging solutions is rapidly increasing.

Accelerating accessibility and equity

My presentation, “EV Infrastructure Expansion: Accelerating Accessible Charging Networks,” highlighted how Elywhere’s technology reduces time-to-revenue and enables flexible installations, even in weak networks, without requiring extensive construction work. With our next-generation solutions, we take a data-driven approach to optimize energy flows, integrating renewables, supporting grid markets, enabling arbitrage, and performing peak shaving and shifting. These innovations come together to deliver stable, high-capacity charging infrastructure at the most optimal cost. Our unwavering priority is to provide solutions that ensure uptime and resilience.

In the panel discussion, “Charging Infrastructure Equity: Urban vs. Rural Access,” we explored how Elywhere’s solutions promote equitable access to charging, whether in densely populated cities or remote, less-populated areas. Our low requirements for grid capacity make it possible to deploy charging solutions in areas with limited infrastructure, ensuring accessibility even in the most challenging regions. Additionally, our universal design makes EV charging more inclusive by accommodating users with disabilities. By leveraging BESS for cost-saving strategies like peak shaving and enabling multiple revenue streams, we aim to make EV charging affordable and accessible to everyone. This aligns perfectly with our mission to democratize EV charging and ensure no region is left behind in the green transition.

Partnerships and new opportunities

Beyond the stage, we had many great discussions at our boot, where potential customers showed great interest in our unique approach and what we have delivered so far. We also engaged in productive meetings with current and potential partners. A highlight was strengthening our collaboration with TSG UK , and I’m excited about the opportunities this partnership holds. These interactions provided valuable insights and opened new pathways for our European expansion.

Why Europe is a perfect match

Norway’s EV landscape, with about 40% electric or hybrid vehicles and 94% of sales being EVs in November, has taught us invaluable lessons about adapting to high-demand markets. These lessons are not confined to Norway. Our solutions are exceptionally well-suited to markets like the UK and globally, where grid challenges resemble those we’ve already addressed. “Our product is a perfect fit for this market,” I noted during discussions.

Leading the democratization of charging

The London EV Show 2024 marked a pivotal moment for Elywhere. We demonstrated how our innovative fast-charging solutions with fixed energy storage and our expertise in tackling grid and sustainability challenges position us as leaders in Europe’s green transition. As we move forward, we’re excited to build new partnerships, expand our reach, and show the world that fast charging can—and must—be accessible to everyone.
