Elucid Social Club: Building Resilient Supply Chains Through Health

Supply chains are only as resilient as the people who power them - and a key pillar of that resilience is health. This idea isn’t new, but it’s vital. That’s why we launched the Elucid Social Club: to spark conversations, build partnerships, and explore practical solutions to integrate health into supply chains.

The launch brought together 50+ participants from cocoa, coffee, fresh fruit, and other industries, as well as representatives from governments, knowledge institutes, and farmer organizations. Partners such as Fludor, Tony’s Chocolonely, GIZ, RVO, Sucafina, Gavi, and ABOCFA Cooperative Ghana contributed to thought-provoking discussions, exploring one core question:

How can health become an integral, sustainable part of supply chains?

Why Health Matters

Stephen, leader of the ABOCFA Cooperative in Ghana, shared firsthand why Elucid’s model is a game-changer:

“What I can say is that this is the best social intervention that we have had. Why am I saying so? In Ghana, we have a National Health Insurance, but it doesn't cover most illnesses. But this one [shows Elucid card] covers everything. [...] The farmers are so happy. Now they can go to the hospital. Previously, they were afraid to go.”

This powerful endorsement underscores how Elucid’s solution is filling critical healthcare gaps - giving farmers access to care they trust.

Bridging Public & Private Efforts for Sustainable Impact

A key theme throughout the event was how financial barriers prevent farmers from seeking care - even when insurance exists. Markus Beck , Senior Donor Manager at Gavi, built on Stephen’s perspective:

“Even in areas where you have access to insurance schemes, as Stephen mentioned, these out-of-pocket payments still persist. And they create a huge demand-side barrier. So for us at Gavi, we really appreciate the idea of blending private resources with public funding.”

His words highlighted a central takeaway: a combined approach, merging private and public efforts, is essential to overcoming financial barriers to healthcare access in farming communities.

Health’s Role in Economic Stability

At the post-event dinner, Dennis Sampong Dorsah from Fludor shared his insights on the economic ripple effects of healthcare access:

“Providing healthcare in sourcing communities has led to higher farmer retention and lower loan defaults - even in a challenging market with a downward crop trend.”

This reinforced what we already know: when farmers have access to healthcare, they are more financially stable and resilient, strengthening both household well-being and supply chain sustainability.

From Conversations to Action

What we learned is clear: tackling systemic challenges requires more than ambitious goals - it requires bold action and effective partnerships. The Elucid Social Club is a platform for those who share a common North Star and are ready to align their efforts.

This launch is just the beginning. By using our full toolkit to build partnerships that align with our values and serve shared interests, we believe health will become the cornerstone of resilient, sustainable supply chains. As Jan Lühmann , our topic lead at Elucid for cocoa, wisely said:

“It's not going to solve all the problems, but I think by working with Elucid, you can be a small - or maybe not-so-small - part of the solution.”

After all, if you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together.
