Elon Musk's New Mars Vision Update

Elon Musk's New Mars Vision Update

The most proactive Mars enthusiast of the planet Earth is getting more concrete on humanity's plans to be an interplanetary species.

Elon Musk, the billionaire founder of SpaceX, is presenting an updated plan for colonizing Mars with 1 million people.

The International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia, is hosting Musk's presentation on Friday. Check out the video below to watch Elon Musk's presentation.

Becoming a Multiplanet Species

Musk wants to be ready for the first launch by 2022 for initial cargo missions. The Earth -Mars synchronisation happens roughly every 2 years. In 2024, 2 crew and 2 cargo ships would then be sent. Skip to 1h 3 minutes for his view of the proposed first colony.

"Heart of Gold spaceship flies to Mars loaded only with equipment to build the propellant plant."

Elon Musk has a new paper with an updated vision.

SpaceX's goal is to make it cheaper to ride to Mars than to buy a house, with a cost at or below $100,000 per passenger.

FIRST COLONY ON MARS?

Will Elon Musk's solar powered city on Mars come to fruition? He's achieved things with SpaceX many sceptics wouldn't have believed possible. He has envisioned the first city to be eventually roughly the size of Austin Texas.

The first Martian colonists will live in giant glass domes and use mining robots to help expand their homes. Mars Base Alpha might be primitive and crude as compared to later, but the pioneering spirit is key to terraforming Mars for future habitation as a viable colony no matter how long it takes.

The stark truth is, it will take more than improved tech to get humanity to Mars. It will take a major collective movement and decision that doing so, going to Mars, is also the right thing to do for humanity's survival and best interests.

In 2017, even if Elon Musk's plan feels more like a vision than a business plan, yet for space enthusiasts this is the best we've got.

However, as the tech becomes more feasible and the plan takes shape, that we will go to Mars, mine asteroids and create a lunar base seems almost inevitable.

For our survival? Why will we not survive and be much better off here on the planet we already have? And honestly, if the Earth is no longer viable then I dont want to live, anywhere. Cause that’s an Incredibly sad thought. Let’s take care of the Earth. Let’s spend this money here and make it the best place in the Universe!

What Elon musk is doing is forcing other aerospace companies to compete with him. That is spurring a new space race and a surge in technology development.
