Elon Musk thinks this new Agent OS from the guy who wrote DOS and created Amazon Marketplace is cool! Take a look.

The Guy Who Wrote DOS, Built Amazon Marketplace, and Now Wants to Reinvent Everything at CES

CES, Venetian Ballroom F, Accenture Stand Guest

Sometimes, you meet someone who makes you feel like you’re seeing the future before it happens. That’s Jim Harding.

Quick backstory: a few weeks ago, someone tells me, “There’s this crazy, brilliant tech guy you need to meet. Wrote DOS. Bezos’ go-to projects wizard. Just go. Please don't be rude Surj.” So, I did. And wow.

Jim is one of the OGs of tech—a guy who helped build DOS (yes, that DOS) back when Paul Allen handed over $50K in a briefcase to make it happen. Then Bezos tapped him to create Amazon Marketplace, and the rest is history.

Now, he’s back with something wild. It’s called Grokkit Data, and it’s essentially an operating system for agents.

This is the kind of tech we’ve been waiting for since Pattie Maes popularized agent technology at the MIT Media Lab in the ‘90s. Back then, it was Firefly. Today? This is what is needed for us to reach the next-level. A platform. A launchpad.

Here’s why it’s interesting:

  1. Timing: 3–5 years from now, this will be everywhere. People will get it, demand it, and rely on it—just like they did with the cloud. George Gilbert reckons longer, I reckon 5 years ish seeing how cloud went from 2008 when we did Structure conference.
  2. Tech: It’s like ZeroMQ meets Docker meets Apache Spark but built for agents. Think patterns, modularity, and real-time adaptability at scale. THINK ASYNCHRONOUS.
  3. Momentum: I made a few intros to people who “might get it,” like Simon Crosby and others and somehow, Elon Musk caught wind. He tweeted about it as being "Cool". Now, they’re heading to CES.

If you’re going to CES, look for them. If you’re curious and want a direct line, talk to Bryce.

Here’s Bryce’s LinkedIn: https://www.dhirubhai.net/in/bryce-c-99ab769/

And here’s a pic of Jim (attached)—the guy behind the magic. Also attaching Musk’s tweet because, well, that’s a story in itself.

Jim’s tech feels hotter than what Google Ventures just funded. It’s early, yes, but I believe it’s going to matter—a lot.

Sometimes, you just know.

P.S. Oh, and if AI for Smart Grids is your thing, ping me. Just landed a Department of Energy grant and am diving into water tech next. Let’s connect.

P.P.S Can anyone improve the interface to content creation tools at Linkedin Please? Ryan Roslansky (actually start a Linkedin group for this...?) :-) Thank you. If you want more content, make it more frictionless and intuitive.

Loved this symphony of tech: Tech: It’s like ZeroMQ meets Docker meets Apache Spark but built for agents. Think patterns, modularity, and real-time adaptability at scale. THINK ASYNCHRONOUS. …Quantum-y for agent platform…
