Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future - Book

Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future - Book

In November 2022, I just finished reading Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, published by Ashlee Vince in 2015. He was the only author who sat down with Elon Musk, his peers, and x-staffs to write a book about his life and biography. In the book's conclusion, he mentioned that? Musk will most likely be the richest man in 2025.?

Following highlights are mentioned in the book:

Tesla could have five or six cars ready by 2025 and be the dominant force in a thriving electric car market.
SpaceX should launch humans and cargo into space on a weekly basis. If all of this happened, Musk would be the richest man on the planet in his mid-fifties. He would be the majority shareholder in three publicly traded companies: Tesla, SpaceX, and SolarCity.

But it happened in 2021, and he is now the richest man, worth nearly twice as much as the second richest person. But he still owns SpaceX as a private company and makes regular trips to the International Space Station, is working on mega project Starship, Tesla is the most valuable car company, SolarCity is rapidly expanding for renewable energy, and in 2022, he now owns Twitter as well.

Typically, such visions begin to occur half a decade later than projected. But Musk made the vision a reality, and he is now growing exponentially faster than anyone else in modern history inside this Democracy system.

I recommend reading this book because you will learn how he made these and you will get the impression that he will go above and beyond anyone's expectations. Because most of us only read a few lines, a few tweets, flash news about Musk, controversy or criticism about him, or a half-minute video clip of his interview or achievements in social media’s. We don't know how he makes things work, how his decision-making strategy works, how his emotions work, how he chooses people close to him, how he manages his staff, how he is always an Engineer rather than a businessman, and other things.

Here are a few interesting highlights from the book.

  1. His grandparents' family history; where did they come from and why did they move to Africa. His relationships; how did they begin and what impact did they have on his journey? His children, as well as his relationships with family, friends, and coworkers.
  2. His journey; from Africa to Canada and then to the United States. His Queen's University experience and educational background
  3. The first startup Zip2; how the idea evolved with his brother Kimble from their trip to the Mojave Desert in 1994 on a 1970's BMW 320i, and what groundwork they did to elevate the idea. In April 1998, the company achieved a $300 million deal with competitor CitySearch.
  4. PayPal Mafia Boss; How the PayPal concept evolved in 1999, his team and engineering skills, as well as business skills, to take the idea to the next level. After the investors came on board, they told him, "You are not a CEO material."
  5. SpaceX;. Musk has developed the idea for SpaceX through his participation in independent meetups such as Mars Society - Dedicated to exploring the red planet, and the concept of mice in space. How the execution strategy has grown the idea from day one to what it is today through struggle and growth.
  6. Tesla; Who introduced Musk to the Tesla team, how he started looking at Tesla from investing $10,000 of the $100,000 that Straubel was seeking. And, how Musk took control, how the relationship fell apart with Eberhard, why Larry Page refused to buy Tesla in 2009, and the journey of Tesla, that became the world's most valuable car company.
  7. 2009; He is the man, 'Never Ever Give Up,' where his policy is money is just there, we can earn whenever, but I don't want to give up what I'm on now.' How he became financially zero in 2009, and the daily struggles he faced until he reached a near-breakpoint.?

This is the place where all entrepreneurs should read and understand the journey of a true entrepreneur rather than reading about an accidental billionaire.

  1. NASA Deal; Then how the NASA deal of SpaceX arrived on time (Musk found out through the back door before the official call), and how he rolled the funds from the yet-to-be-confirmed SpaceX deal, support from SolarCity to allow Tesla to survive.
  2. Solar City: Why was it created? What was their business strategy? How SOlar City saved Tesla from financial ruin in 2009.
  3. Starlink; During the book releases in 2015, the project was initiated as Space Internet . But how did this idea evolve, who is behind it, and why is OneWeb a competitor to Starlink?
  4. His Team of Success; All of his engineers, peers, and coworkers influence his working style and decision-making styles in most of the events. Musk's personality and how he treats his coworkers And his interest in learning micro-level engineering on his entire business, as well as the way he simplifies to explain the relevant counterparts and more.

After reading this book, you'll realize that Musk's purchase of Twitter is only the beginning of many more to come. Because he never stated that he desired to be the richest person, but rather that he desired to help humanity and nature. Humanity and nature are facing many challenges as a result of people who are only interested in making money, and Musk is the one who has been addressed loudly and is making it happen.
