ALPHABET BEATS ON EARNINGS:
Google's parent company Alphabet beat on earnings, up 21 percent in revenue year-over-year. The company brought in $26 billion in revenue in Q2 of 2017, with net income for the quarter up $3.5 billion on an adjusted basis compared to $4.9 billion this same time last year. The discrepancy is in large part due to fines the company owes the European Union. Alphabet is paying the E.U. $2.74 billion for anti-competitive behavior. Alphabet also announced that Google CEO Sundar Pichai is set to join its board of directors.
ELON MUSK PLANS MODEL 3 "HANDOFF" FOR FRIDAY:
The first Tesla Model 3 owners will get their cars this week. Elon Musk will host a "handover party" on Friday. If it's anything like the launch event for the Model X, you can expect to see Tesla board members and early investors getting their Model 3 keys. Tesla says more than 500,000 people preordered the car.
NETFLIX MIGHT BE MORE IMPRESSIVE THAN WE THOUGHT:
It's turning out to be an even stronger quarter for Netflix than we thought. The streaming video service not only beat earnings expectations for the second quarter, but it's now reportedly taken the lead in the app space. Analytics firm Sensor Tower said the company's app was the top earner across all mobile platforms.
