Elon Musk, OpenAI and Krishna

Elon Musk, OpenAI and Krishna

?

The mystery of life lies in the depth of its unpredictability! In spite of knowing the past and being experiencing the present, it is still difficult to predict the future. Those who proved it, were just lucky.

?

The good thing about this, is that it has led to all the many human attributes like the belief system, family, society, trade, commerce and the like. On the other side, you see the biggest leveller, greed. History has proved time and again that ‘Greed’ has led to power, war, insanity and lack of judgement.

When Mikhail Kalashnikov said he designed the legendary assault rifle in 1948 to protect his ‘motherland’; what after effects did it have on this world? It doesn’t matter to anyone when he said later in life that this invention was his biggest regret. Would you stop a person from doing something like it now? How can you do it when you haven’t done that before. Past would have an effect on the present, and hence the future.

?

AK 47 reportedly sold in war-torn countries for as little as $15. However, their popularity amongst criminals and terrorists led to some concern for the inventor.

‘This is the nearest thing to doomsday that one could possibly imagine. I am sure that at the end of the world, in the last millisecond of the Earth’s existence, the last human will see what we saw.’

– George Kistiakowsky, after watching the Trinity Test, World’s first nuclear test, 1945

On the same note,?Edward Teller, the father of Hydrogen bomb said, 'Had we not pursued the hydrogen bomb, there is a very real threat that we would now all be speaking Russian. I have no regrets.'

?

Mankind invented the atomic bomb, but no mouse would ever construct a mousetrap.’ -Unknown

For every few good inventions, there would be a disastrous one. For, the mankind has been grateful with the inventions like optics, wheel, steam engine, cement, aeroplane, penicillin, telephone, paper, compass, light bulb, internet, and the like.

?

So, what is that thin red line?

To explain, I need to quote from the Gita. Many people get confused, including the greats like J. Robert Oppenheimer.

?????????? ??????? ??????? ? ?????????? ? ????????????????? ???????? ???? ???? ? ? ?

?

When Oppenheimer quoted, ‘Now I am become Death, the destroyer of the worlds’, taking inspiration from the Gita, he meant it with a lack of judgement, or he doesn’t know it at all. Krishna could have wiped out the entire Kauravas in a split second, but He didn’t do anything for His personal reason. Instead, He advised Arjuna and Pandavas to do the job, because they were righteous and were on the right side of Dharma. Krishna is the protector of Dharma; period. It is we the humans, who are greedy for power, and some even compare their greatness to that of God. We need to realise that all it takes is a split second.

Elon Musk, one of the greats of our times, built Tesla to make the world free from pollution. Her started SpaceX to challenge NASA’s capability and cost. The Mars mission was initiated for his concern about the possibility of a global catastrophe such as a nuclear war, asteroid impact, or environmental disaster, and hence having a self-sustaining colony on Mars would provide a backup plan for humanity. Musk pledged to make Tesla's patents accessible to the public where he said, “Tesla will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology.”

?

What am I referring to? The intent. ‘Thought is the most concentrated matter in the universe’, said by an Indian sage. That, I call is the thin red line. Kalashnilov, Edward, George, Oppenheimer, and all of them had a personal intent. When the invention becomes personal, you need to pay the price. The great Bhishma who was so pious and righteous had to face the brunt, for, he took an oath for his personal reasons.?

Now that we got to the bottom line, let’s double click on AI. When the stalwarts like Sam Altman, Elon Musk and the like have started OpenAI few years back, the very purpose was to create a safe product, ‘for the good of the world.’

?

“In reality, however, OpenAI, Inc. has been transformed into a closed-source de facto subsidiary of the largest technology company in the world: Microsoft. Under its new board, it is not just developing but is actually refining an AGI to maximize profits for Microsoft, rather than for the benefit of humanity,” the lawsuit adds. “This was a stark betrayal of the Founding Agreement.”

?

AI is as powerful as the atom bomb or an AK 47 (if not more). So, should we decide to further nurture this technology? Is it going to help the humans and the world at large? Unlike the automation revolution that enhanced the productivity of white collar men, the AI revolution is going to disrupt the blue collar jobs in a negative way; we are told. LLMs for various industries and use cases are being built to replace humans for repetitive tasks. Why are the Governments worried? Why are they talking about regulating it to nip it in the bud? Humans are feeding their intelligence to make AI better and stronger; to eventually replace themselves?! Not easy for sure, because we will spend all our energies to make it near accurate to our thinking; which would take another 100 years. That's what my 'Human Learning' is telling me after learning the world history for thousdands of years. After all, how can Artificial Intelligence be better than Human Survival? Monika, ohh my Darwin! ;)

If you think this is just the beginning; I am positive that this is a never ending story.

To err is human, we all know and agree. To err continuously without a rhyme or reason is human alone. That’s the hard fact of life; or maybe that’s what fuels the so called mystery. Or is it that the very design of future is it’s unpredictability; which could be one of the laws influencing the survival of the mankind. The thirst should not be quenched; the fire should not be doused; the search should not be ……

Intent over excuses!
