The Future of Your PeopleSoft Career
Hey PeopleSoft Pro,
PeopleSoft careers are at an interesting crossroads. The software itself isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, but cloud adoption means companies are rethinking how they use it. That’s both a challenge and an opportunity. If you’re a PeopleSoft professional, you don’t have to start over, but you do have to start adapting.
For years, PeopleSoft consultants had a crystal-clear career path. You learned the modules and perhaps learned PeopleCode, you mastered PeopleTools, you got good at implementations, and eventually, you became a senior consultant or a manager. But now? Now things are changing fast.?
Cloud-based ERP systems like Oracle Cloud, Workday, and SAP SuccessFactors are everywhere. Companies that once relied on PeopleSoft are either moving to hybrid setups or migrating entirely to the cloud. That leaves a big question: what happens to PeopleSoft professionals??
The good news is that PeopleSoft skills are still highly valuable. ?The bad news is that they might not be valuable in the same way they were before. If you want to stay relevant, you’ll have to evolve with the technology. ?
For example, there are plenty of job opportunities that match your skillset but they’re becoming fuzzy. These jobs have job titles that are no longer using the word “PeopleSoft” and are evolving. ?At PeopleSoftCareer we are constantly updating our technology to curate and pull in relevant job opportunities, regardless if the title contains the word “PeopleSoft” or not. ?We know that these job positions are a perfect fit for candidates like you!?
One of the biggest opportunities for those experienced with PeopleSoft is in cloud migration. Thousands of companies are still running PeopleSoft, and they need experts to help them transition to cloud-based solutions or move their PeopleSoft system to the public cloud. If you understand PeopleSoft and learn enough about cloud technology, OCI, AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud ERP or Workday, you’ll be in high demand. The key skill here isn’t just technical. It’s knowing how to map old processes onto new technology in the Cloud.?
Another option is to specialize in PeopleSoft integrations. Plenty of companies still use PeopleSoft, but they also use cloud applications for recruiting, performance management, and other apps. That means they need people who can build APIs, integrate data, and make these systems talk to each other and work together. If you can navigate tools like Integration Broker, MuleSoft, or Oracle Integration Cloud, you’ll find plenty of work.?
And then there’s security. As long as companies continue running PeopleSoft, they’ll need professionals to keep their data safe. Roles like Security Administrator, PeopleSoft Administrator or PeopleSoft DBA aren’t going away anytime soon. If anything, they’re becoming even more crucial as companies deal with cybersecurity threats and compliance requirements.?
Here’s a Few Actionable Steps:
The mistake some PeopleSoft professionals make is thinking that things will stay the same. They won’t. The safest bet is to stay ahead of the curve. Learn cloud technologies. Get certified in Oracle Cloud or Workday. Understand AI and Machine Learning. Pick up automation tools. The more adaptable you are, the more opportunities you’ll have.?
Just know that PeopleSoft isn’t disappearing overnight. But the way companies use it—and the jobs that support it—are changing fast. If you’re willing to evolve, you won’t just keep up. You’ll be way ahead of the game.
