ELKON takes the stage in construction of Pipe Concrete Weight Coating (CWC) plants

A CWC plant is a large and complex facility for concrete weight coating of the exterior of pipes in the oil and gas industry. Concrete coating is used to provide a negative buoyancy, bottom stability and mechanical protection for offshore pipelines and for road applications. In order to set up such a production facility, it is important to integrate several types of equipments into one well-organized structure which will be able to produce high-quality products. Top results can be achieved by using a concrete batching plant able to produce heavy concrete endowed with special properties, along with a pipe coating equipment and a pipe handling equipment with a wide range of additional equipments providing quality concrete coating of pipes of different diameters.
With its wide and talented engineering department, ELKON has huge technical, technological and professional capabilities for carrying on such challenging tasks and developing them successfully. In cooperation with a Dutch company-producer of installations for handling, blasting, and coating of steel pipes, ELKON has recently designed a special project which includes the company's standardized solutions for CWC plants.
In this objective, ELKON has designed a batching plant with a number of conveyor systems: aggregate pre-feeding systems with vibrating screens to screen out materials out of given dimensions; concrete mixture feeding conveyors to supply concrete from the mixer to the CWC equipment; conveyors and a precise weighing system for reclaimed concrete which is left after coating process and can be partially used in the next cycle. Twin-shaft mixer of the ELKON plant is able to deal with high density mixtures and is also equipped with additional safety system. Applied special washing system is able to clean the mixer with high pressure fast and efficiently, particular accessories discharge the liquid to a mobile container. In order to assure that the produced concrete meets high requirements, the plant is equipped with components which provide high accuracy for weighing of aggregates and water. Aggregate bunkers are fitted with video system; many parts of the plant are covered with galvanized steel sheets and polyurethane lining. ELKON’s automated control system with special software designed for such projects, allows to operate the plant in automatic mode in integration with the CWC equipment’s automated control system, despite all the complexity of the system. No exaggeration to say that developing of such project requires enormous technical and intellectual opportunities, which ELKON fully possesses.
