Eliminating YouTube with Ethereum and IPFS

I've been thinking about how content producers can use Ethereum and IPFS to host, promote, and monetize their content without any gatekeepers.

? Make video.

? Upload to dapp.

? The producer sells a token that represents financial stake in the video. Presumably to people who are fans of their work.

? Token owners use IPFS to host video. Maybe with a lot of servers depending on their stake and the video's popularity.

? App allows filmmakers to sell YouTube style ads via smart contract.

? The smart contract distributes 100% of the money to token holders. No money goes to "YouTube". There is no YouTube.

? Filmmakers decide which ads get shown. Or all owners could vote on it. Whatever they want. Either way there's no YouTube that can stop the publisher, advertisers, and fans from connecting with each other. All the ads would be things the producer chose.

? Thanks to IPFS, popular content would become more widely available as more people watch it. Built in meme scaling.

? Thanks to Ethereum the content producer can't change the rules about sharing revenue with their fans. It's a smart contract. That's the smart part.

? The token holders have incentive to obnoxiously promote the video for you in other media.

? Also no more creepy ad targeting. At all.

As your content gets more popular you have 2 options:

1. Sell ads.
2. Continue selling tokens. At worst it works like a free Patreon.

I think both fans and people who make content would love a system like this.

? No more gatekeepers.

? No one sits between you and your fans taking 45% of the money just because they made a website and put it online for you.

? Ethereum and IPFS ensure it is virtually uncensorable. Financially or otherwise. Free speech is a beautiful thing.

? Your hosting provider is your fans.

? No one can take your video offline.

? Your content can't be demonetized. The ads shown are all things you personally support.

? No one has a financial incentive to use your video to build advertising fueled robots that feed extreme videos to everyone on the planet.

All of a sudden your content is funded, filmed, hosted, published, and monetized without having a single person or company in the entire world who could stop it.

This tech is going to change the world.

People just aren't seeing it yet because everyone thinks crypto is just about making new kinds of money. There's way more here. The next few years are going to see all kinds of new innovations by groups that aren't "companies" and don't have their own profit motives.
