Eliminating the root cause of CXOs' stress & burnout

The world is witnessing lots of myths about health, and higher executives are more prone to disorders for a myriad of reasons. Bi-Proficiency is a campaign to bridge the gaps and fix all the loopholes in this regard.

With this newsletter, we aim to make executives aware of what they are losing, what must be done, and in which way! Wishing you a perfect pink of health and a happy reading as well!

The erratic work conditions and chaotic working hours are putting ‘phenomenal’ pressure on the higher executives.?

Enormous expectations, 'to the moon' targets, and dreary deadlines- are the factors aggravating the bleak workplace. And, all this greatly takes a toll on mental health.?

Too much stress is leading to burnout, and this negatively impacts organizational health.?

To find a solution that can make one more resilient against such exacerbating environment, researchers need to focus on the root cause that breaks resilience. And, the biggest cause of non-resilience against high pressure is our tendency to 'ruminate' perpetually.?

The continuous churning of emotional upsets- again and again over the same issue is called rumination. And this tendency makes us stressed out more and easily.?

Just imagine a scenario in which you woke at 2:30 am and the most dominant thought is how long you would be required to track and monitor the remote freelancers. And you are not able to sleep as sales are low, and the organization can’t afford the in-house team. Moreover, the investor’s expectations are high and something is to be delivered this week at all costs. This entire whirlpool spiral down to the worst-case scenarios; then boils down to complete burnout.?

The next morning you gave a presentation and for not being in the perfect state of mind made a mistake or missed saying something very important. Then you realized what you lost. And, then the rest of the day passes with that feeling of not being mentally active at that time. This adds up to other thoughts of how that could have been improved and what you could have said to gain an advantage.?

But in a nutshell, all that is just a waste of energy and your intellectual capital which could have been used productively even after that faux-pas!?

That’s how rumination negatively impacts various aspects at once.

Rumination gives nothing except more stress and is the biggest enemy of resilience.?

Therefore, to gain resilience first of all tackle this useless rumination.?

Stopping Rumination to Gain Resilience?

The following four fantastic changes will help you in this regard-??

  1. Get into the present state

First of all, notice how much time you have wasted ruminating. It has been estimated that 70% of the daytime hours are spent living in another world- either utopian or dystopian.?

This is where rumination and the associated negativities like stress, pressure, and burnout are born. Be a little hard about this aspect. Make a habit of living in the present. Ditch all those future worries and retrospections. Astutely check where you are now and how this can be improved. Apply the 80-20 principle and focus on those main activities that will influence the results more.?

Paying attention to fitness will not only improve sharpness but also give a positive jovial attitude. Special times for meditation also help greatly in getting this habit.

2. More focus?

People generally complain about their inability to focus! But a paradoxical truth is that everything else is out of our control, it is only the focus and attention that are in our hands.?

When you are living in the present, you can focus your attention better on important tasks. Consciously and deliberately put your attention to the point where it must be, and practice to maintain it there only.????

Here reducing distractions is the key! When you will be at lower energy levels or your fitness is not fine then you will be distracted more for sure. Daily exercises not only put energy levels much higher but also improves focus and better attention. This gives a better conviction and a greater sense of control.?

3. Being Authoritative?

Having an authoritative approach to any situation is much like a better sense of control with greater confidence. If any unpleasant situation is being faced then make sure to not let it become dominant. In fact, the necessity is your dominance.?

Whatever unpleasant is happening then let it go! Don’t ruminate too much over it. Feel bossy, be authoritative, and act what is required now.?

We have a special newsletter on the topic- Making CXOs more authoritative.?

4. Continuous improvement

As discussed in the third piece of advice that let it go doesn't mean you have to sit calmly doing nothing.????????

It means that let whatever has happened but take action for the amelioration of what is required now.?

Even if you find yourself repeatedly landing into the realms of remuneration then ask yourself, "Is this perpetual thought process going to help? Is it going to help me personally, or professionally, or is it any good for the organization?"

And, as the answer is a big NO then do away with that daydreaming & contemplation session.????

Practice such an attitude every day, and feel a difference in your productivity.??

Other simple things for your rescue in this regard are breaking the pattern. Whenever those negative emotions strike back stand up and try stretching or if time and situation permit then go for a walk outside! Go out and take some rest, peruse your hobbies, and feel the difference.?
