I distinctly remember that moment of ‘light’ in spite of a decade gone by. It was a fine Sunday Evening and darkness had just descended. I had picked up Ayn Rand's epic "The Fountain Head" from my bookshelf to have a fresh look at one of the most memorable moments for me in the story where Roark is being interviewed by Guy Francon. That's when the lights went out. It was total power shutdown on a New Moon night.. Oh, I felt so very disappointed and found my hands feeling each other as if to break the shackles of darkness. That's when it happened.
My daughter walked in with a candle burning in her hand fixing it on the top of shelf supported by a few drops of wax working as glue. Wow, the darkness withered away. It was all light around me. How easy it was to make the darkness run away and that's when the poet in me just threw a verse out of my head:
And the darkness withered away
Just by quietly lighting a candle
What about the darkness of my mind,
Why I find it so difficult to handle..
Indeed, the 'darkness of mind' was symbolic to any dark thought or a habit or anything ‘wrong’ in the flow of life. I started thinking on some typical situations.
- If playing cards for endless hours was a bad habit i.e. kind of ‘darkness’ in my inner space, then which candle could I burn? It was candle of 'Self-control' which I needed to burn;
- if getting angry on a spur of the moment was a kind of darkness, then it had to be the candle of "Patience";
- if it was the darkness of a relationship losing its sheen, then it was candle of "love" needed to be lighted up to give light to the frayed hearts to help them start beating together again to beat each other in "giving". Here only one caution would be that if only one heart keeps on giving constantly without the other heart contributing then it can get tired and become fragile/ brittle with time; this is one candle which needs to be carefully handled.
- if it was darkness that kept a person from "doing" i.e. from taking action because of some fear, then the candles of confidence , courage and fearlessness needed to be burnt.
- If one finds a dark spot where resources get wasted because of lack of skill or knowledge, there perhaps candle of ‘training’ will have to be burnt to bring ‘light’.
Trust me, thinking in terms of lighting candles made my life so very easy and comfortable. Because, whenever I would find some dark thought or feeling or something wrong around, I would find the right kind of candle to let my inner space light-up again.
I would like to confess that for me NLP was one such candle which burnt bright to help me eliminate the darkness of ‘ignorance' and enlightened me with 'self-awareness'. That's what now I do - I help people find right candles to burn so that any kind of darkness withers away without making a permanent home in any corner of their hearts; I help them brighten their lives with ‘light of awareness’.
You know what the fun is – dark spots continue to appear and so does the right candles. One has to just pick up and make the effort to light them up. Yes, Darkness of any 'wrong' can be eliminated by the candle of "right action.."
Let us keep life "light" .
Keep burning the candles of joy and happiness!! Life is so very beautiful..
Here’s lighting up the candle of LOVE!!! Let the darkness wither away..
