Elevator Pitching

Dear reader, have you ever felt overwhelmed in a high-stakes moment? Imagine this: you’re about to meet a potential customer—what I like to call a future customer. You receive a warm welcome at the reception and a great cup of coffee, perfect for sharpening your focus.

After a brief wait, you’re directed to the second floor for your appointment. As you step into the elevator, you find someone already there who greets you with a friendly smile. He says, “You must be new here.” Quickly, you correct him, explaining you have a meeting with Mr. X. He then asks, “What’s your company’s name?”

You share your company’s name, and he immediately follows up with, “What do you specialize in?” Your mind races to find the right words, but just as you start explaining, the elevator doors open and he steps out. You’re left frustrated, having only scratched the surface of your company’s story. It gets worse when you learn that the man in the elevator was the CEO.

This experience highlights the importance of being able to clearly and concisely explain who you are and what your company does—in just one minute. The good news is that crafting a powerful elevator pitch is a skill you can master.
