To uncover what it takes, I had the pleasure of interviewing Adar Cohen Chief Commercial Officer at UBIO. Adar’s journey offers valuable lessons for anyone aspiring to reach the pinnacle of their career.

From Customer Success to the C-Suite ??
Adar Cohen began his UBIO journey as VP of Customer Success and the first member of UBIO’s customer success team in 2019. Through his dedication and strategic vision, he built robust onboarding processes and scaled the customer success organization to support UBIO’s rapid revenue growth.
In 2022, after successfully leading a revenue expansion effort, Adar discussed his ambition with UBIO’s founders and board, leading to his promotion from SVP of Customer Success to Chief Commercial Officer. This role encompasses sales, customer success, marketing and delivery.

Mindset Shifts for the C-Suite ???
Adar emphasizes the critical mindset shift required for the C-Suite: “I decided it was time for my (customer success) voice to be heard in the boardroom.” This change involved recognizing the importance of strategic decision-making and relying on his strong team to handle operational details. As he puts it, "C-Suite executives have the opportunity to set the strategic direction to grow and create value.”

Changing Habits ?
Transitioning to the C-Suite also demands a shift in daily habits. Adar re-evaluated his calendar, focusing on high-impact meetings and creating space for his team. “I had to let go of the hands-on control I had over my old team and customers and actively create gaps in the diary for time to be spent with sales, marketing, and team members who needed quick directions or confirmation,” he explains.

Measuring Success ??
Success in the C-Suite, according to Adar, is measured by two key metrics: “Does your contribution improve the value to customers? Since increasing customer value leads to growth.? And, are you connecting the company to the broader customer needs?”

Advice for Aspiring C-Suite Executives ??
For those aiming for the C-Suite, Adar offers this advice: “Ask yourself if you can achieve greater things for your customers and if there is a real purpose beyond the title. Consider how you will manage your time and support your existing team” (in particular if you are moving up internally).

Adar's professional purpose is to maximize value for customers and drive growth. Personally, besides being a Sepmai in Karate and musician, he strives to simply be a good person, a good partner, and a good father to his two boys.
