Elevating Public Space with Sculpture

Elevating Public Space with Sculpture

Hello and welcome to the newly launched ‘Stories from the world of O’ that will give you a biweekly glimpse into our world where the O fountain reimagines public space by combining form and function with art.

Oh, how we LOVE public spaces that are intriguing and make us feel something.

At the O fountain headquarters, we have a particular soft spot for projects that combine form, function and art.

Forms that convey stories that allow us to feel, react and engage whilst also meeting functional demands are part of elevating public spaces.

Adding a layer of intrigue through art is the jewel in the crown ???

MoveArt is a great example of this.?

Inspired by the double helix - aka the structure of our DNA molecule - it’s an organic shaped interactive art form.??

Moveart has a unique sculptural contour that combines to offer a place to rest or run around on. It invites exploration and creativity, doubles as a seating area, a gathering place, a performance stage, public art and a playground all in one. ?

Just looking at the images makes us smile, it feels so welcoming and playful.

Our public spaces need to be unique and invigorating. Moveart definitely captures this spirit.

The Moveart tagline is “functional sculptures to awaken the personality of any public space”.?We definitely feel they bring this to life and are a great example of how to brighten any public space.

Another example is this funky basketball court, sandwiched between a pair of apartment buildings in Paris.?

It is abstract, welcoming and purposeful and showcases how artistic intervention can raise the bar of a normally bland functional public space.?

I love imaginative, multipurpose urban design solutions that elevate community meeting places, especially when art is used to bring that together.

?The O fountain offers a clever blend of these ideas, reimagining water refilling points into contemporary art pieces that encourage people to reconsider refilling their bottle.

Its multifunctional design uses a sculptural form plus art to add meaning to the place. This allows the O fountain to bring an inherent sense of meaning and identity to a place.

Good design aims to contribute to a better future.

What examples of good design, that combine form, function and art, have you seen in your travels?
