Neon Lands $25M Investment from Microsoft’s M12 to Expand Serverless Postgres

Neon , an open-source cloud-native PostgreSQL startup, has secured $25 million in a strategic investment led by Microsoft’s venture arm, M12. Neon's unique architecture separates storage from computing, offering a stateless and serverless Postgres experience. This funding will support Neon's expansion into Microsoft Azure and the enhancement of its database capabilities.

Co-founder and CEO Nikita Shamgunov remarked, "We’re not looking to raise — this is not a new round...We are well-capitalized with more than $100 million in funding. But this is Microsoft. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to strengthen Neon’s relationship with Microsoft and Azure, their role in the future of developer tools is only growing.”

Founded in 2021 by Shamgunov, Heikki Linnakangas , and Stas Kelvich , Neon is building an alternative to AWS Aurora with a focus on developer productivity.

Encord , co-founded by Eric Landau and Ulrik Stig Hansen , has raised $30 million in a Series B funding round led by Next47. The company, which specializes in multimodal AI data development, aims to ease the burden of data annotation and curation.

With the new funding, Encord plans to double its product, engineering, and AI research teams and expand its San Francisco offices.
