It’s the spark of self-transformation that is the energy for effective Business Transformation Leadership.
Are you a Bright Spark, bright with a spark for today and the future?
Are you deeply connected with what matters to you?
Are you kindling the capacity to lead with intention without being limited by your past?
(even if the world around you is constantly disrupting?)
Do you intend to Self-Author your next Chapters?
In your current and future Chapters, do you see yourself kindling other Bright Sparks?
These deeply personal, individual questions are foundational to creating the shifts of the bigger systemic opportunity / risk organisations have on their Business Transformation agenda.
This article explores connecting with your spark and wisdom to:
- Turn industry disruption into your opportunity to truly shine.
- Increase your personal and organisational capacity to inspire and guide the Bright Sparks of your organisation and the industry.
- Feel better within yourself and your relationships.
The moment you act on your dreams you are leading your life.
As Bright Sparks we often share that it is inspiring to be dreaming and sharing possibilities with others. There is spark for the various dimensions of life. Yet it can be daunting navigating towards goals amongst the disruptions. Opportunity and Risk are everywhere.
“There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”
~Nelson Mandela
Leading through disruption, sometimes we can be in our flow. Sometimes we can have our confidence knocked and be caught in doubts.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
~Mark Twain
As you look at your current situation you see:
- You are in an organisation experiencing industry disruption. There are implications impacting your day to day, and you know there is more to unfold. You are not sure what to make of all that.
- You sometimes go home frustrated, feeling paradoxically you are doing too much, yet not enough.
- You have a spark of possibility and potential for impact this decade and your life.
“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.”
~ Plutarch
As you reflect more deeply you see:
- You sometimes worry, under pressure, am I being true to myself?
- You can feel the carryover stress across your work, relationships, home, health and finance aspects of your life.
- You sometimes hear yourself asking am I doing what really matters in the long run?
- You care, and there is a weight to supporting others in all aspects of your life.
- You wonder am I deepening relationships or skating on the surface?
- You acknowledge that ‘busy-ness’ and being ‘always on’ isn’t allowing space for the deep thinking for planning and engagement that is required.
- With the pace of change in expectations you are seeing people’s skills and technology capabilities struggling to “keep up”. You have already seen significant staff and technology churn and know there is a lot more to come.
Disruptive periods, by definition, disrupt our patterns.
We are all creatures of habit. Habits and our deep patterns are a part of what got us to where we are today.
Have you considered there are habits and patterns that have got you here, that may no longer be serving you?
Some people can get stuck at this point and suffer through disruption.
Research in Psychology, Neuroscience and Performance Science indicates that only 20% of individuals and teams reach their true potential.
~ Shirzad Charmine, Stanford University, and contributor to Bernie’s Chief of Transformation Program
Do you have practices which help you see and act on the habits that no longer serve you?
Us-two can think of people that inspire us. That we know have contributed meaningfully through multiple chapters of our life. Given space for reflection, we can also see where we have shifted ourselves through new phases.
Leading Disruption with Grace is possible for you.
“Go for it now. The future is promised to no one.”
~Wayne Dyer

2 年Bernie Kelly Transformation Partner, Great points. It certainly helps challenge our own status quo to get rid of Mental Glaucoma that?isn’t allowing space for the deep thinking to do what?really?matters in the long run “We can't solve problems by using the same way of thinking we used when we created them.” --Albert Einstein?? That is what Japanese did back in the 50s/60s to solve their Quality Problems when they realized that involving people using same old way of thinking wasn't working? They humbly accepted that follow the status quo was not the way to go anymore so they focused to unlearn outdated ways of thinking and doing by acknowledging that a mental model no longer works, identifying a new one that does and embedding it into their way of thinking Why do you think that companies identified that Critical Thinking skills is what their employees need to Solve Problems and Make Decisions? https://www.forbes.com/sites/bernardmarr/2022/08/22/the-top-10-most-in-demand-skills-for-the-next-10-years/?sh=1e501c517be7 Thank you for sharing
