Elevate Your Strengths & Communicate Your Transferable Skills

Elevate Your Strengths & Communicate Your Transferable Skills

Strengths

Many people aren't fully aware of their own strengths or how to leverage them effectively. Fun fact: your unique strengths are statistically rare! For example, the Gallup CliftonStrengths assessment—taken by over 27 million people—shows that the odds of two individuals having the same top five strengths are 1 in 33 million! (We offer Gallup CliftonStrengths to our candidates, FYI ??)

Successful people often know their strengths. These strengths not only energize you—they're the things you do well and enjoy, and they're qualities that others notice. Understanding your strengths can help you choose the right team and focus your efforts effectively. Better yet, you decide how your strengths relate to what your employers need! Connect the dots using their perspective on why they should hire or promote you. Tie your strengths to your target.

Transferable Skills

On top of knowing your strengths, it’s essential to be aware of your 'transferable skills.' These are versatile tools you can apply across various situations, industries, and roles.

If you’re aiming to advance your career, switch jobs, or land a new position, highlighting your transferable skills is crucial. They make you adaptable and can give you an edge in the job market. For those just starting out, showcasing these skills can be especially helpful in interviews and securing a position.

So, what are transferable skills? They can include anything from computer skills to research and writing abilities. You can acquire them through work experience as well as through volunteering, studying, reading, listening to podcasts, and watching educational videos online. For our candidates, our training is actual experience to become a Business Developement Representative (BDR).

What transferable skills are employers most interested in?

  • Communication: Mastering listening, speaking, reading, and writing. If you’ve honed these skills through school and work, you’re likely to excel in any role.
  • Information Gathering & Analytical Thinking: Knowing what information you need and how to obtain it. If you’re tasked with compiling reports or gathering data, asking the right questions is key.
  • Problem Solving: Problems are inevitable, regardless of where you work. Being able to handle and resolve issues is essential in any job.
  • Leadership: Good leaders are in high demand! If you have experience leading teams, managing projects, or motivating others, it’s a valuable asset.
  • Time Management: Prioritizing tasks and completing them on time or even ahead of schedule is crucial. It’s also important to do so efficiently without compromising quality.
  • Customer Service: Providing excellent service involves listening carefully, responding respectfully, and resolving issues effectively.

When It Comes to Leveraging Your Skills: See It Through!

Building a career that leverages your strengths and transferable skills might seem challenging at first. You may not land your ideal job immediately, and you might not excel right away.

Stay calm.

Success doesn’t come overnight, and neither does a fulfilling career. The field is full of opportunities. With a growth mindset, determination, and a solid plan, you’ll find your way and achieve success.

Here's what our alumni Vanlexus Franks had to say about our program. “What really changed was my confidence in myself and my skill set. Now I'm way more aware of what my assets are, what I bring to the organization, and how I frame conversations in a way that provides value to the person that I'm talking to.”
