How will you reimagine your presence in the meeting room? Or will you take everyone OUT of the meeting room to a walking meeting? What's the first daring change you'd like to make?

Whether it's injecting a burst of creativity, fostering collaboration, or rethinking processes, whatever CHALLENGES THE STATUS QUO can set the tone for a week of impactful work with a touch of Innovation!

A Tale of Innovation: Transforming Challenges into Opportunities ?

Here is an inspiring story from one of my #MBA students. He revealed how a simple tweak not only saved his company millions and transformed the game in a subcontractor bid.

?? The magic question?

WHY. But not just once - he asked WHY three times, fueled by curiosity and openness rather than judgment.

When a competitor in a subcontractor bid raised concerns about providing a specific service, instead of excluding them (following procedures, he asked the subcontractor why, he delved deeper. By questioning why, why, why, he unearthed a hidden gem—this service was better off in-house!

?? The revelation led to a strategic shift. The public bid was modified, showcasing a lower price and improved service, thanks to the internal capabilities he discovered.

So how does it work?

In my classes, I sometimes show this video. In only 2.5 minutes, a 5-year-old girl finds out about the deepest feelings and reasonings of her father. She asks not to judge but to understand! Why daddy, why?

  1. She is genuinely curious - despite what some parents may say about their devilish "why" asking kids :-)
  2. She asks to understand, not to judge; she surely has no prejudice around who should go to college or provide for a family.
  3. She dares to keep the silence long enough so the grown-up has time to gather his thoughts and get in the mental flow of really asking himself why.

So, the next time you face a challenge, don't quite understand at what point this process has 'grown historically' with the organization or who took the decision to follow through with a plan (hence no transparent reasoning is available), embrace the power of WHY.

Ask, question, and innovate! ??

You will be surprised how many of the people at the lead will actually thank you for pausing to think and question the status quo.

The "Why?" video is hilarious. And really good idea to try at work. Thanks.
