Let's talk about the mighty "V" word – vulnerability.
Now, I know it might sound like vulnerability is some kryptonite that repels our fellow men faster than a speeding bullet.
But let's break it down, shall we?
Sure, we can all agree that vulnerability is a game-changer, a secret sauce for success.
We've seen those TED talks, nodding in agreement like we're at a virtual concert.
But here's the twist: watching and agreeing is one thing, practicing it in the wild west of real life?
That's a whole other rodeo.
We're experts at keeping vulnerability at arm's length.
We give it that courteous head nod, a thumbs-up, but we suddenly have an Olympic-level hiding technique when it comes to action.
"Vulnerable" is basically the code word for "please wound me."
And that, my friends, is how most men see it – like it's some emotional dartboard.
So, what's our defence?
We grab our trusty shield and armour.
We skip the vulnerability show and instead try to prove our mettle through other means: fixing stuff, paying bills like clockwork, and sometimes being the loudest rooster in the henhouse.
It's like a ninja-level conditioning passed down from generations of stoic forefathers who treated emotions like they were mythical creatures.
You know, that mentality from locker rooms and frat houses where we were told to
"Man, the heck up"
But here's the twist in our hero's tale – adulthood happens.
Suddenly, we're juggling reasons to stash our true selves in the closet.
We get hurt, and our hearts are all
"Nope, not falling for that again"
And suddenly, talking about feelings is something left to the ladies.
We're supposed to be strong, unbreakable pillars of masculinity, right?
But hold up, vulnerability isn't just about spilling your emotional guts like a leaky faucet.
It's about baring your soul, letting your true self strut its stuff.
And for many of us, we're like those magicians who only reveal their best trick when the stakes are sky-high.
We hide our true selves in the shadows until the spotlight hits us square in the face.
And then bam!

We've lost something precious – a relationship, a partnership, maybe even our own sanity.
It's like we're in a high-stakes poker game and finally all in.
But rewind a bit – until then, we're masters of bottling things up.
We shove feelings in the closet until it's bursting with emotional clutter.
And how do we cope?
Oh, we let that mess explode in spectacularly unhealthy ways.
Addictions become our sidekicks, workaholism our secret weapon.
We might even dabble in some questionable behaviour – cheating, lying, all the hits.
It's like we're on the tour de self-destruction.
Now, I'm going to drop some personal wisdom here.
Back in the day, I wasn't always the sage you see today.
Nope, I was sailing in the open sea of emotions, guided by the wind of my feelings.
Thank my trio of female role models – mom, aunt, and grandma – for that.
But then, like a plot twist, I entered the realm of high-level sports and societal norms.
Suddenly, the message was clear: strong men don't do the feelings thing.
And guess what?
I didn't exactly fit the "macho athlete" mould either.
I wasn't towering at 6 feet and change, nor did I tip the scales at over 220 pounds.
But guess what, dear comrades?
It took a plunge into rock bottom for me to embrace the hero within, to strut my stuff in my own skin and emotions.
So, if you're still grappling with your inner superhero, fear not.
It's a tale as old as time – the journey from hiding to thriving.
And remember, every obstacle is just a plot twist in the grand story of your triumph.

1 年You are right James, It's that plunge to rock bottom that changes our perspective and lets us be more human. Mine wasn't physical it was political instability-induced financial disaster and starting again in a new country that made me realise we are not superhuman, emotionless robots. Thanks for the reminder.
