You can't do the pretty until you do the dirty. An early, critical step towards breathing life back into one of Downtown's oldest gems.
A bit about The Elena Flats:
Completed in 1909, The Elena Flats is one of the few remaining apartment buildings constructed in Downtown Jacksonville during the first two decades following the destructive 1901 fire. Sometimes referred to as the Jacksonville Renaissance (1901 - 1920), it was a period of phenomenal growth and construction in Downtown. Not only was 122 East Duval Street originally built for apartments, but it is also one of only two remaining historic apartment buildings in the east part of the downtown area.
The Flats was originally built as a four-unit apartment building and we will be restoring it back to a four-unit apartment. It was converted sometime around the 1930's into a 22-room rooming house. It retained this function until it closed in approximately 2004 after which it sat abandoned for the past 11 years.
A remarkable number of architectural features still remain in various states throughout the building.
