Elementary, My Dear Fitness: Sherlock Holmes Unveils the Secrets to Health
In the Sherlock Holmes story “Silver Blaze” Sherlock solves a mystery by focussing on what didn’t happen. In this mystery the dog at the home in question didn’t bark during the crime, meaning the dog knew whoever committed the crime.
This demonstrates the power of focussing on things that aren’t happening, rather than the things that are.
Too many executives I speak to reply with a form of this…
“I’m good I train 4x a week and eat well.”
And I have zero doubts they do have these areas under control very well.
But like in the example above of Sherlock Holmes where the dog didn’t bark… what isn’t happening that should be?
In most cases it may simply be that you aren’t getting the maximum return from all that effort with your current plan due to insufficient sleep.
Is the inevitable stress of life is stopping you from ever really relaxing and slowing results?
Or is the truth that you’re doing a good job of managing your own training and nutrition, but it is taking up mental bandwidth that could be spent on your work or family instead.
What happens if we stop focussing on the things we are doing really well.
Instead simply taking control of the aspects which should be happening, but aren’t…
“Elementary my dear Watson!”
