Elegiac in Paradise

California moods are of a great variety. There are days where even the introverted are pulled out of themselves with beaming rays of light and a glowing landscape that just seemed to have been created this very moment.

But then, at other times, the marine layer can crawl towards the land, putting its coat over the bright colors and let it glow in soft light. Time seems to stand still and open itself to reflection.

California's poetry ranges from the emotional zigzag of beat to the inner musings of Robert Frost, or, if you are from Europe, Nikolaus Lenau. I could even see Georg Trakl sit there, looking out over the Pacific - and not killing himself because of the consolation of the ocean melody.
