Electrophysiology is not only about ion channels...
... in fact they are only a minority when looking at transport proteins in human cells as this 2013 review by Hediger et al. shows. However, while in the last decade there has been dramatic progress in ion channel screening technologies (prominently provided by Nanion), the important class of solute carriers and ATPases are much less amenable to high throughput screening instruments - although representing more than 50% of the transporter proteins. Clearly a big challenge - that Nanion lately addressed by bringing the SURFE2R 96SE to the market.
By adding the Surf-Engine to its product portfolio of ion channel related instrumentation (the ancestral portrait gallery contains instruments like the Port-a-Patch, Patchliner, SyncroPatch 384PE and the Orbit family) Nanion's technologies now address up to 80% of transport proteins in human cell membranes.

7 年Used the SURFE2R 7 years ago whilst finishing off my PhD. Fantastic bit of kit that yielded so much interesting data and even more questions! Shame we didn't have more time with it.
