Electronic prescription technology approved for use in Boots in Wales

Roll out of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) in Wales, which is making a big difference to patients and healthcare staff, continues to gather pace.?

Boots UK is the second pharmacy supplier to have its electronic prescription technology approved by Digital Health and Care Wales for use in its community pharmacies across the country. This follows completion of successful testing at its store in Llanfairfechan, Conwy, in partnership with the adjacent Plas Menai Surgery. ?

EPS allows GP surgeries to send prescriptions electronically to the patient’s choice of community pharmacy, without the need for the green prescription form.?

It will make things easier and safer for patients and healthcare staff in Wales, as well as helping the environment by reducing the millions of paper prescription forms currently printed each year.?

Jenny Pugh-Jones s, who is leading the Primary Care Electronic Prescription Service programme, said:

“It has been exciting to see the very real difference EPS has made at Boots in Llanfairfechan during testing. Pharmacy staff have told us they love using it as it makes things simpler and more efficient, and patients have been keen to sign up instead of continuing to use the green paper prescription forms.?

“We are delighted that Boots has been approved to roll out its system in stores across Wales, and we look forward to many more patients and clinical staff benefiting from the service.”?

Jenny Rose, Director of Stores for Wales and West at Boots said:

“Electronic prescriptions will make it easier and safer for patients to access the medicines they need and makes life easier for GP surgeries and pharmacy teams too. Following a successful test phase, we are excited to support roll out of EPS to all our Welsh stores.”

The move from green paper prescriptions to a digital service is one of the biggest changes to healthcare in decades and relies on GP and community pharmacy systems being able to send and receive electronic prescriptions securely. ?

Invatech was the first pharmacy supplier to successfully complete testing of its EPS technology for use in Wales. A number of other suppliers are also in the process of testing their pharmacy software for use in Wales, with roll out taking place as quickly and safely as possible.?

The introduction of EPS across Wales is a key part of the Digital Medicines transformation programme, managed by Digital Health and Care Wales.?

Mae’r gwaith o gyflwyno’r Gwasanaeth Presgripsiynau Electronig (EPS) yng Nghymru, sy’n gwneud gwahaniaeth mawr i gleifion a staff gofal iechyd, yn parhau i gyflymu.?

Boots UK yw’r ail gyflenwr fferylliaeth i gael ei dechnoleg presgripsiynau electronig wedi’i chymeradwyo gan Iechyd a Gofal Digidol Cymru i’w defnyddio yn ei fferyllfeydd cymunedol ledled y wlad. Mae hyn yn dilyn profion llwyddiannus yn ei siop yn Llanfairfechan, Conwy, mewn partneriaeth a Meddygfa Plas Menai gerllaw. ?

Mae EPS yn caniatáu meddygfeydd i anfon presgripsiynau yn electronig i fferyllfa gymunedol o ddewis y claf, heb fod angen y ffurflen bresgripsiwn werdd.?

Bydd yn gwneud pethau’n haws ac yn fwy diogel i gleifion a staff gofal iechyd yng Nghymru, yn ogystal a helpu’r amgylchedd drwy leihau’r miliynau o ffurflenni presgripsiwn papur sy’n cael eu hargraffu bob blwyddyn ar hyn o bryd.?

Dywedodd Jenny Pugh-Jones , sy’n arwain y rhaglen Gwasanaeth Presgripsiynau Electronig Gofal Sylfaenol:

“Mae hi wedi bod yn gyffrous gweld y gwahaniaeth go iawn mae EPS wedi gwneud yn Boots yn Llanfairfechan yn ystod profion. Mae staff y fferyllfa wedi dweud wrthym eu bod wrth eu bodd yn defnyddio’r gwasanaeth gan ei fod yn gwneud pethau’n symlach ac yn fwy effeithlon. Ac mae cleifion wedi bod yn awyddus i gofrestru yn lle parhau i ddefnyddio’r ffurflenni presgripsiwn papur gwyrdd.?

“Rydym wrth ein bodd bod Boots wedi’i gymeradwyo i gyflwyno ei system mewn siopau ledled Cymru, ac rydym yn edrych ymlaen at weld llawer mwy o gleifion a staff clinigol yn elwa o’r gwasanaeth.”?

Dywedodd Jenny Rose, Cyfarwyddwr Siopau Cymru a Gorllewin Lloegr gyda Boots:

“Bydd presgripsiynau electronig yn ei gwneud yn haws ac yn fwy diogel i gleifion gael gafael ar y meddyginiaethau sydd eu hangen arnynt ac yn gwneud bywyd yn haws i feddygfeydd a thimau fferylliaeth hefyd. Yn dilyn cyfnod profi llwyddiannus, rydym wrth ein bodd medru cefnogi’r gwaith o gyflwyno EPS yn ein holl siopau yng Nghymru.”?

Mae symud o bresgripsiynau papur gwyrdd i wasanaeth digidol yn un o’r newidiadau mwyaf ym maes gofal iechyd ers degawdau. Ac er mwyn iddo weithio mae angen i systemau meddygon teulu a fferyllfeydd cymunedol fedru anfon a derbyn presgripsiynau electronig yn ddiogel. ?

Invatech oedd y cyflenwr fferyllol cyntaf i gwblhau profion ar ei dechnoleg EPS yn llwyddiannus ar gyfer ei defnyddio yng Nghymru. Mae nifer o gyflenwyr eraill hefyd yn y broses o brofi eu meddalwedd fferylliaeth i’w defnyddio yng Nghymru, a bydd y rhain yn cael eu cyflwyno mor gyflym a diogel a phosibl.?

Mae cyflwyno EPS ledled Cymru yn rhan allweddol o’r rhaglen trawsnewid Moddion Digidol, a reolir gan Iechyd a Gofal Digidol Cymru.?
