Electrode E 6010
This is an electrode which is commonly used for Carbon Steel piping root run.
The "60" in 6010 means 60 KSI tensile strength . The next digit "1" means it can be used/operated in any position—flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead. The last digit “0” means the type of coating which is cellulosic sodium .
The electrode which is used with reverse polarity (eg electrode +ve) produces the weld puddle which changes from liquid to solid rapidly. They also have deep penetration; produce a flat, rippled bead; and leave little slag. These are the qualities looked for in electrode for root run and hence is used widely for the job.
The current generally used is 50 to 85 amps for 3/32” rod and 75 to 135 amps for 1/8” rod.
The weld deposit is radiographic quality.
