Electricity contracts have continued with their upward trend, with prices increasing by over 60% when compared to this time last year. Gas has dipped slightly but prices are still almost 50% more expensive than last April. This has been supported by colder than average seasonal temperature increasing the demand for energy, reports that energy stores are falling and growing optimism that oil demand is recovering with the vaccination efforts well underway.
The Targeting Charging Review has started to impact energy prices, as well as these, are some of the charges that out of the supplier's control. OFGEM announced their decision to review how some of the charges are collected to help maintain the electricity network and have made the changes to try and keep it fair so businesses of similar size pay a similar amount and stop those who have managed to avoid paying it.
Energy suppliers have been increasing their prices due to OFGEM reviewing the price cap for domestic customers. This too has had an impact on the energy quotes we are seeing for business customers and will have pushed them higher.
Some good news came Easter Monday however, with the electricity grid recording its 'greenest energy day ever'. Low-carbon sources were reported to make up almost 80% of the power needed in Britain, which means that there was less reliance needed on burning fossil fuels to generate energy. If you haven't already, find out what green solutions we can help your business achieve in order to become more environmentally sustainable and play your part as we strive for a near zero-carbon society.
