Electrical Appliances and Plastics
Electricity is a significant aspect of our lives, operating different electronic appliances at home, workplace, play, rather almost everywhere. And wherever there is electricity, plastics are also there. We have different kinds of smart and intelligent electronic devices that are not only labour-saving but they also save time. It's practically hard to imagine life without washing machines, microwave ovens, mixers, refrigerators, kettles, toasters, so on.
We also have a television in our rooms, a music system in the living room, and computers, fax machines, or a telephone at work. Plastics encourage progress, owing to their properties of being lighter, safer, attractive, quieter, they make electrical goods durable, environmentally friendly, and cost-efficient.
There are two broad categories of Plastics, thermoplastics one that can be melted down and remoulded, and thermosets, which cannot be remelted once they are set. The second category plastics are more suitable for applications where heat is encountered. Now, let’s understand a few kinds of goods that actually use plastics.
- Small electrical appliances, Brown Goods -
Plastic imparts that fashionable look to modern CD/DVD, Music systems, PCs, and Television. All of them significantly enjoy the design freedom conferred by plastics to look better and light on pockets.
2. Large electrical appliances, White Goods -
Those sterile and beautiful handles, knobs, and door facings on the appliances such as that on cookers, handles, and internal fittings on refrigerators, washing machines, and dishwashers are all offered by plastics.
3. Other white goods and office equipment -
Goods such as food processors, toasters, and kettles demand obligatory safety and plastics make them viable. On the other hand, plastics are essentially employed in modern offices, preferably in hard-wearing plastic keypads and housings for machines, photocopiers, and computers.
