Electric Vehicles Aren’t The Future. They’re The Present.
A Brief History of Misguided EV Predictions
Back in 2010, data analysts J.D Power made a quiet prediction about electric vehicles. They predicted, with some confidence, that in 2020 there would be 5.2 million electric cars on the road globally.
They said that 7.3% of all car sales in the 2020s would be either hybrid vehicles or battery electric vehicles. The report was called “Drive Green 2020: More Hope than Reality” and it worried that consumers just wouldn’t take to electric vehicles.
The report wasn’t quite right...
It’s safe to say that many of the long-term predictions have missed the mark.?
It’s an easy mistake to make - if you keep thinking of EVs as the industry’s future, not the present.?
It’s time to think more about where the market is, where it’s going, and recognise it as a key part of the industry instead of a second fiddle to the ICE market.
That means understanding the challenges posed by EV adoption, drivers’ concerns, and the opportunities for repairers, insurers and the entire vehicle supply chain.
It’s a project we’re more than happy to take on, follow along with our brand new 'EV Insights' blog series as we delve deeper into the EV market.
