In the UK, electric cars will no longer be exempt from vehicle excise duty starting in April 2025. The chancellor stated this was to make the vehicle taxing system 'fairer', but others say the removal of free road tax will discourage people from moving to electric vehicles (BBC).
Joe Biden’s flagship climate legislation, the Inflation Reduction Act, offers generous tax credits to electric vehicles made in North America. But some automakers are now pushing against this, as many feel they won't be able to qualify due to a reliance on Chinese battery parts (FT).
However, it's not all bad news for electric vehicle manufacturers, with Australia announcing tax cuts on electric vehicles for fleet buyers, which should help to make the cars cheaper and more accessible for everyone (The Guardian).
