Electric Vehicle - Charger Installation

This week, I had the chance to install a home charger for my new company vehicle, a Kia Niro. I felt it was important to share some insights from my experience that could be helpful to others. The installation was performed by a proficient electrician who arranged for the charger to be delivered that morning. It had been in the warehouse while I was away for five weeks and was provided by Interleasing’s partner, EVSE – Ocular IQ Home 7kW. Terrence walked me through the installation and asked where I wanted the charger placed. Unfortunately, due to my work schedule and meetings, I couldn't spend as much time with him as I would have preferred to ask more questions. However, he connected the charger to the internet, helped me download the Ocular charger app, and explained the charging process, which was extremely beneficial. I only wish I had more time to discuss maintenance, as it’s a crucial topic. The total cost came to around $3,000 (including GST), covering the charger, shipping, wiring, cabling, clamps, and other necessary components. The charging efficiency was better than I expected, increasing from 24% to 94% between 11 AM and 4 PM, using a trickle charge while plugged into the main power source. MMSG has invested time and resources into EV charging solutions for its own fleet and has reached a straightforward conclusion on how to reimburse employees for home charging. There are also alternative options with an RFID card for those who are on the road and cannot install a home charger. This will be an ongoing blog as I continue to learn about the realities of driving an electric vehicle.
