Elections in Somalia....

Elections are taking place in Somaliland and plans to do the same are underway in Somalia.
That is good news. Whether it is one person one vote, or 16 years too late, or selection by some chief of a tribe are all moot points. The main issue is that we are on the right track towards democracy.
I did a brief survey to gauge the feeling of the Somali diaspora towards the elections in Somalia. See below.
There were some interesting comments and many viewers of that post.
Am glad 7 members of the #Somali government viewed the post, not sure whether voted for or against the Somali diaspora's participation in the local elections. Many of you emailed me and suggested that this issue should be raised in the next parliament. I think it is fair to allow all Somalis to exercise their right to vote regardless of where they live. To refuse the right to vote for the Somali diaspora will require the constitution to be amended. More on this in my next article.
Comments, feedback welcome.

3 年A point of correction: It is Somaliland not Somalia. Somalia did not have elections, and will have as always "Selections". Unfortunately. Thumbs-up for Somalilanders for the 20 years of democracy and elections.
