Election 2023 Coverage Wrap-Up

As we intensify our focus on 2024, we want to share a few facts and figures from last Tuesday night:

  • 1,018 elections covered and called, from Governor to Mayor of Ahoskie, NC (pop. 4,879)

  • 205 local races in Virginia
  • 130 local races in Indiana
  • 105 local races in Ohio
  • 70 local races in New Jersey
  • ~150 reporters in the field
  • ~50 remote monitors
  • Results collected via state and county page-scraping, in-person and remote monitoring, and fax
  • 100% accuracy

Across the night’s highest-profile races, we were pleased to make our calls at the following times (all ET):

While we’re proud of our track record for speed and accuracy, we’re especially proud of our work on local races. DDHQ is the only provider to cover the entire ballot, from races for the Presidency and Congress, to statewide and state legislative races, to mayor, county offices and school board seats. While the attention in 2024 will be on federal races, we also look forward to covering 40,000+ local elections across the US.

About Decision Desk HQ

Decision Desk HQ is a leading provider of real-time election results, race calls and related data, and the only provider to cover US elections from the presidency and Congress to the county and city level. Launched in 2012 on a hunch that we could use technology to improve the speed and lower the cost of collecting election returns, we were first to call the presidency for Donald Trump in 2016 and for Vice President Joe Biden in 2020. In 2022, we were first to call control of Congress and also covered 16,000 local races. We continue to innovate with new technologies to drive more efficient results reporting that prioritizes accuracy, supports local coverage, and strengthens trust in the democratic process.
