Election 2016 | Our Purpose has Never Wavered

Election 2016 | Our Purpose has Never Wavered

As we all digest the election’s results and forecast its impact, the work that we do in affordable housing and community development has never felt more important.

Across the country, millions of families remain housing insecure – paying over half their income on housing – and disconnected from good schools, jobs, transit and health care. We remain as committed as ever to fight to ensure that every family and individual in the United States has access to an affordable home connected to opportunity.

Since Enterprise’s founding over 35 years ago, we’ve worked across five presidential administrations and partners of all political stripes. Our purpose has never wavered: to help make communities stronger, more inclusive and filled with opportunities that enable people to thrive.

We are prepared to work with the incoming administration and Congress to that end. With the campaign season behind us, we are hopeful that the president-elect and members of the 115th Congress are prepared to collaborate on behalf of low-income people and struggling communities.

In his acceptance speech, President-Elect Trump said that investing in America’s infrastructure will be a top priority for his administration. We believe that a crucial part of that investment must be in housing, and we will work tirelessly to make that happen.

  • We will continue to fight for the expansion of essential poverty-fighting tools like the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, to meet the growing demand for affordable homes, and the New Markets Tax Credit, to encourage the flow of private capital to underserved communities.
  • We will continue advancing the momentum of fair housing goals, toward reversing the persistent and pernicious patterns of residential segregation and making communities more equitable and inclusive, once and for all.
  • We will continue to work closely with state and local governments to help them meet the specific needs in their communities.
  • We will continue to promote green, sustainable homes and communities that protect residents’ health and reduce the impact on the environment.

Most importantly, we will continue to carry out our mission working with our valued partners.

We look forward to the day when every person has a quality, affordable home in a diverse and thriving community, connected to the opportunity for a good life. Our work has never been more important.

Hope has finally arrived!
